I just checked my comps at a casino that's accredited, and I don't have enough to cash in - and then I got a notice that almost HALF of my comps will be expiring at the end of the month! I think that's kinda sucky personally....I mean you get the comps for playing, so why should they expire? I play at a lot of different casinos and I don't have much of a gambling budget so my comps don't add up too quickly anyhow...

Anyhow what do you think - expiring comp points suck or not?

Suck! Definately. Where's the POLL?

Yes it sucks, and seems entirely unnecessary.

I have seen casinos that expire comp points when they deactivate an unused casino account, BUT this is different. This is a player who plays regularly, but NOT like a "whale", and it seems they are in a perpetual trap of having points expire, yet at the same time never be able to gather enough to convert them. Given the poor rate of earning points, it can be hard to earn enough from such modest play to ever be able to cash them in.

I have never heard of a valid reason for expiring comp points from an ACTIVE account, so it looks like nothing more than a "trap" for the unwary player who does not watch the calendar, and makes regular checks each month for expiring points.
Rather than expire them, why not forcibly convert them after 3 months or so of the player not bothering.

Sometimes the player has trouble converting them, and doesn't pursue the matter & then forgets. Currently, every time I try to check my Loyalty points at All Jackpots, I get one of those "404 - page not found" errors. JF do NOT expire comps though, unless accounts become inactive (6 months of no activity). JF also send players a reminder email about a month before their account becomes inactive, telling them to log in & place a bet if they want to keep it active.

I had quite a few comps expire at Fortune Lounge because I was never able to reach their min target (I didn't play all that much there, since being bonus banned I only deposited minimal amounts, and only because I was playing for GoneGambling prizes).

FL have reverted to the old and WORSE system, and I cannot even find how to redeem comps in Platinum Play, and expect to lose some at Royal Vegas when they expire.

I stopped playing at casinos that have loyalty points that expire. I earned those points and their mine and if any casino thinks they can simply delete them. then its good bye to them. I personaly like to accumulate my points so that eventually i can use them instead of making a deposit, but if they expire in a short time frame whats the point in having them at all.

There are many casinos that deserve to go bust in my opinion and why people play at the still is beyond me. I can only hope that one day people wise up and these people go rapidly out of business. I certainly wont shed no tears to know they have ended up on the streets. Id probably laugh.

Yes it sucks.

It is ok for those tiers. If you wish to get a higher rating , better bonuses etc, you have to play your monthly quota. But to take away comps you earned playing just like that, definitely sucks.

It is like "oh well, you have credits on your account and we will take up to 10 credits from your account - monthly". Why? Because you have it on your account, thats why.

I actually had somewhat of a heated conversation with Dan one of the reps at Platinum Play... you get 1 month to use your comp points over there?

What the hell is that, do you realise how much you need to actually play before you can accumulate enough to get?

I would almost have to play there literally everyday inorder just to claim the minimum amount..

It is set up for high rollers and not the average depositer at all.

3 Months I can understand, have them set up for a three month stink and if they are not used by then by all means take them but one month is just crazy..

Once again 3-Dice have set theres up quite well, it is set at 100 points and they stay there until you get enough to cashin $5 or you cna keep going.

They of course think you will deposit and play more if you see your comp points are about to expire even if the amount "lost" only would be a few dollars.

UPDATE!

I PMed the rep here to ask about the comps...and it was an oversight that has now been fixed! So now that it's fixed I can tell you that the casino was NedPlay - this is the relevant part of the message from Mark_32Red....

I have checked the settings on the Loyalty points at Nedplay and you are correct, they were set to expire 90 days after being credited. This was a setting we inherited from Nedplay when we bought it and it hasnt been changed.

I have amended this rule so loyalty points no longer expire on active accounts....

 Thanks Mark!!!!

If the account gets zero play for 6 months, I would have no problem with the casino clawing back the points (similar expiry policies are in place for many land-based casino rewards programs). However, there are a few other things that need to be accounted for to be fair to both the player and the house.

1. Lower the threshold for redemption-many casinos set this too high and it works against the house. If the player can convert and use the points then they have more incentive to return, and thus make a new deposit when they lose them :)

2. Send emails to players whose points are due to expire-it's good customer service to tell people that they have free money in their account that they earned and can use-again, when they run through them, another deposit could be made, benefiting the casino.

3. Not many, but some casinos put WR on comps-this is complete BS and I won't frequent a casino that has this policy.

Ideally, I'd love to see an expanded comp system that pays at a higher rate for players who shun bonuses. If you're going to play a lot, a better comp system instead of bonuses can be more lucrative for the player and will produce more loyalty and higher wagering for the house.

It also provides a better deal for people who are predominantly table game players-no game restrictions, no running afoul of obscure T&C's-just play and earn credit with no worries.

Yes, expiring comp points suck and I personally feel little to no incentive to play at casino or poker sites that take them away after what I consider a short period of time i.e. one to three months, though I still think even up to six months is quite unfair. Mind you, some of the places I am thinking of reset the total at the end of the month regardless of whether/ how much one has played.

The absolute worst related experience for me, though, was when one of the first poker sites* I ever registered at and which I had once considered my favourite - especialy since it was where I really started my online bankroll and won a big freeroll - removed over 50,000 of accumulated comp points last year  They were changing to a new 'loyalty' program and resetting balances to zero but didn't even have the courtesy to inform me, a longstanding member, by email.

* Since I'm feeling in the mood to name and shame, it was PDC Poker (formerly Poker.com) on the Merge network.
