There's a place in Anglesey,Wales-about 2 and 1/2 hours drive from me called Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysyliogogogoch.

I'm sure they name them stupidly long so us English can't pronounce them on our UK holidays!

Two businessmen are on a sales trip through Wales... stopping off at various locations and conferences as they go. After a while they arrive in the town of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysyliogogogoch... and start to argue about how to pronounce it as they drive along. A little while later, still arguing, they decide to pull in for some lunch. In the restaurant, they have the bright idea to ask the woman serving them to help.
''Excuse me... but would you mind telling me and my friend how to pronounce where we are.. we can’t stop fighting over it''. The woman looks back.. Seemingly a little shocked... before slowly and deliberately replying 'Burrrr-gerrrr... kinngggg'. Ba-dum, tish.... I'm here all week ;)

56 letters here...

I've long had the impression that from an early age I'd challenge others to spell
Tamataforkatangihungucowowowotamataopokhifenakitematahu ?
Name of a song associated (so I thought) with a town in New Zealand.
Must be 50 years since I stopped playing that little game.
Had a few hillbilly guitarist singers in my family and I vaguely recall hearing it sung by one of my uncles.

So anyhow - this thread prompted me to look it up on Google.
And sure enough
"Tamata-forka-tangi-hungu-cowo-wowo-tamatao-pokhi-fena-kitema-tahu" isn't there :o
But I didn't make it up.
I didn't imagine it...
Would'nt have gone to the trouble of learning to say it unless somebody coached me surely?
At the time I was informed that the town was called Tamata for short.
Anybody got any clues on this one???

Hey lookee Here...

Changed my search phrase to " longest town name in nz " and look what came up ...

With a whopping 105 letters
“Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateahaumaitawhitiurehaeaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu”
is officially the longest place name in the world. It is the Māori name for a hill in southern Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand.
In Geographic Placenames Database shortened to “Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateapokaiwhenuakitanatahu” (57 letters).
For ease of conversation by the locals often shortened even further to “Taumata”,

HOW ABOUT THAT... pretty close wasn't I
