Cell phone help please

Ok here it goes i get this cell phone. Comes with text messages. Not a issue i havent a clue how to use this feature. Im fine for the first week now i have all these charges anywhere from 1.25 to 2.95 a text coming into my cell phone.
I called the provider they tell me maybe the last person that had this number
used it and signed up for some of this, only way to get rid of them is to call them or text them and say stop. I cant find a few of the numbers or how to do this if anyone can help me plse msg me or leave a response here.
Please someone make them stop. Its at the point i go to dial out and a text message is blocking my outgoing call.

What kind of messages are you getting? You can always find the company by looking at who is sending the message. What the phone company told you was complete bull the only time you get any messages unless you signed up for this feature go back to them and tell them you do not want text messaging on your phone and they can take it off..

I dont even know how to view the messages. Let alone see how to get to them to find out where they are from. Kodoo just tells me the issue is last person that had my number joined these places and its up to me to close off my phone number. He also told me there is no way of shutting off text messaging.
What turned into 30 month is close to 100 now for a feature i dont use.

If I were you, I'd get your number changed. It's not only that you're getting these messages, but I foresee you getting many calls for the person that had the phone before you, as well. Since this is a nuisance, they shouldn't charge you for changing the number...NOR should they charge you for these messages, because it's not you that asked for them to be sent. If they balk at removing the charges, I'd turn the phone in and go with another company.

Another other alternative would be:

As for the text messages, Read through them to the end, because they are required (AFAIK) to have instructions in the message on how to stop them from coming in. Basically the equivalent of an unsubscribe link in emails.

Or, finally, find out what number these messages are coming from, then call the cell company and have these numbers blocked. Again, there's no reason that they should charge you for this, because it's not of your doing.

When you put the phone in your name was it shut off from the prior user?
I never heard of a provider not being able to cancel the text messaging for you..It should not be your responsiblity to contact the prior owner unless the phone is still under his/her name..when you say you can't dial out because of a text message is that because you didn't clear it, if that's the case try hitting the end button and see how that goes..And I'm shocked to see how much it is for a text message, the most I've seen was .40 a text message..

Ok here is update cant do much more till monday with it. Customer service says yes text is free but premium text msgs cost money. Ok so 76 calls in total 35 of them are from the service provider itself. I still havent a clue as how to read them so thats out. What i did do was go online billing check the id number and google it. That showed me 3 places one is cell phone provider other is a
match life area with horoscopes and other i have no clue so typed stopped in all 3. As of last nite no text msgs have come through. As far as ending them lol i didnt know they are sitting there i would grab phone and dial out and would keep getting sorry you cant respond in this matter. Customer service told me after that fact i was responding to the text msg this way. See i would open phone put digits in for phone number and dial and took me each time 5 6 tries to get through to phone number. Then when bill hit is when i saw all the charges. Best part is with the billing does say text free i said i can hardly read the numbers on the phone let alone figure out how to text or see it remove i plse. So they are going to give me credit if i go in tomorrow for close 80% of the fee for the text msgs. Im still ticked as if the last person had this number or all you do is if you ticked at friend enter their cell number online you get these text mgs. What a way to make money.

sorry just wanted to add i did respond earlier but i just noticed that it didnt go through. Goes hand in hand computer crashes with cell phone issues. Everything they say comes in threes between those 2 and the casino non hits you think im in for a good run LOL

80% of the fees? If I were you, I'd tell them to shove it where the sun doesn't shine, and cancel any contract I have with them. There's plenty of other cell companies out there that will treat you better. If they want to get their money, they can send the bill to the previous owner of that number.

I agree you didnt request text messaging so you should not pay a dime also they can shut this off at their network dont let them pull the wool over your eyes
example: cable you dont want HBO n/p they shut it off at their main office not thru your phone this is just a way for them to get more $$$ outta you

an if they dont change it tell em like Win said to shove it

I will post more on this later today im out there to chat with them this am.
They told me that all cell phones run the same way cute huh. I copied down the tracking numbers from most of the text and it seems its from their own company. And it seems that i did respond to a few from trying to dial out and hitting send button i accepted a few of them. Still no others since sat nite.
After i chat with them i will tell you all who for now i will keep that info in the vault.
