Cats - Has anyone tried this?

Cat and the toilet stories....
When I was just a child, I walked into the bathroom at my aunt's house and was shocked to see her humongous black cat, balanced on the toilet seat, peeing in the toilet. I stood there at the door, remained quiet, and watched as the cat finished his business, stepped down from the seat, went around to the side, stood up, and pulled the handle down (it was the fancy kind with a curly cue on the end) to flush. I kid you not. I was not drinking, (I was 10 years old! LOL) nor was I prone to insanity (at that time at least LOL). They did not train him. She told me later that he started doing it on his own because he couldn't get them awake in the middle of the night to let him outside. (There was no litter box in the house.) Why did he also flush? Who knows? Maybe because he saw them flush after doing their business.
We had a big black cat that also would pee in the toilet. No idea why... he had a litter box in the bathroom, but sometimes we'd walk into the bedroom and see the cat in the bathroom balancing on the toilet seat. He tried to flush, but most times he couldn't get the smooth chrome handle down far enough before it would slip from under his paw.
I have always felt that the big Bombays are super intelligent and are decendants of a long extinct alien race. (I'm kidding!)

there are all kinds of training aids for this. Some are litterboxed that are placed next to the tilet and slowly raised, they have parts that finally fit on top of the toilet and eventually get removed. About a 2 month process and works for the majority of cats. A much simpler thing is described here

but I kind of have my reservations, I don't like to encourage young cats to jump up, it makes it harder to keep them off counters and tables.

My friend Karen successfully toilet trained a cat she had, using a cut-out piece of cardboard with a small bag with a little litter in it in the middle. She ditched the bag after a period of time, and gradually increased the size of the hole. When the hole was the size of the seat, she pitched the cardboard entirely.
This momma cat later trained two kittens to use the toilet, although they had to bring back the cardboard circle (no litter) so the dinky little things wouldn't fall in!
A later cat failed to learn though.
I also had neighbours with Afghan hounds that were toilet trained too, and they are notoriously stupid dogs, but of exceptional beauty.

Sounds good...I first saw this on "Meet the Fockers"...lol
I'll have to wait awhile after I get them, though...as kittens they'd be too small to actually be able to do this

Winbig, I don't think you have to wait...just cut a big circle of cardboard that will fit under the seat, cut a small hole in the middle and tape a plastic bag with a small amount of litter in it and proceed with "litter" training. Once they are consistently going, ditch the bag, the kitties still have the cardboard to give them a stable place to do their business. As the kittens grow, the hole grows too.

We'll see..I'm not sure how high they can jump yet, so I don't know if they could make it up to the toilet or not....I finally met them this past weekend and they are sooooo tiny...they'll fit in the palms of your hands....
I could always get a stool or something for them to jump from, but I'll definitely wait until they're adjusted to life in their new home, first....I don't want to overwhelm them with new stuff that might cause problems later on..

They need to be at least 10 to 12 weeks old to even try to jump that high...

Ahh, ok....it won't be long, then. I get them the first week of June and they'll be about 9 weeks old then....

if happygobrokey can be trained then I see no reason why one could not train a cat...
