Of course, visiting a casino wasn't the goal of my trip to Vienna. But since Casino Wien
was right next to my hotel and I saw its enticing sign every evening, as a seasoned gambler, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to visit.
The casino opened in 1968. It's not housed in a modern building, but in the historic 18th-century Esterházy Palace on Kärntner Straße, literally a few minutes' walk from the Vienna State Opera... right across from the Cannabis World store.
An ID check, a face shot (I joked, "It's not posted online, after all")—and they hand you a card that you can use to top up directly from the slot machines, either in cash or by card. Since it was a bit dark and I'd just popped into the store across the street (just to have a look), I couldn't really get a good look at the interior. I was not sure if it was legal to take photos inside, I took a couple of blurry shots, being sure of course that no one would be in the frame (the one of the roulette hall is from the net).
Tall slot machines, roulette tables in another hall.
Several providers, including some well-known online ones such as "Gamomat" for example. It wasn't particularly crowded despite the high tourist season. Well, compared to online casinos, the latter certainly beat the competition in almost every way: you can play from any location, there are promotional bonuses, a huge selection of games... whereas here, of course, you just drop in for fun, drop a couple hundred euros, maybe twice, just for the atmosphere at roulette table- and that's it.
