Hi guys,
I saw this post some time ago but most of the team was on the SIGMA annual pilgrimage in Malta these days.
Those who were there have had the privilege to see your truly and Charles Gross, both co founders of Alea, on the cover of SIGMAgazine.
I couldn’t resist to attach a photo of the stylish cover à la Daft Punk “You can see my face but you can’t see it all” adding a French Touch to it.
The interview can be found page 56 to 61 of the magazine:
For those who would like a signed version printed version, don’t hesitate to send me a PM.
Just kidding, you can put the guns back in their holsters
Now I will address here the most important points raised by the community.
Casino Secret is a joint venture between Alea’s founders, Charles Gross and myself and other people which have been in this industry for approx 10 years.
Casino Secret project started before Charles and myself stepped in.
We met at ICE at the beginning of the year as they were looking for an game aggregator which Alea’s B2B division provides.
Basically we were going to be their supplier and they were going to be our client but the more we were discussing about the project, the more we liked it.
At some point we decided to invest in the company using their existing Microgaming license and platform, Optima, mainly because the cashback product was part of it.
From the beginning of next year, following the new Maltese directive on igaming, the license will integrate every software provided on the website.
Casino Secret’s initial team have integrated Alea’s offices in Barcelona and Malta this summer and we have increased the staff in order to develop all operations.
Casino Secret’s cashback model is quite unique because it only applies on losing bets.
Unlike other cashback models, it won’t reward you if you are winning. It is not and should not be the purpose of a cashback system. If it has always been done this way, it’s mostly because of the technical challenges and probably also due of a lake of creativity when designing the model. I consider both reasons as the consequence of the laziness that the igaming industry is suffering sometimes, including ourselves.
We are mainly seeing it impacting negatively the product and on the compliance/responsible gaming sides.
Regulators are forcing operators to embrace corporate responsability.
Concerning product, but also in some ways responsible gaming, it’s a broader discussion that I’ll skip now in order to keep this post as short as possible as I see myself already digressing
But we could go deeper into that subject it if may be of any interest.
To get back to the cashback conversation, let’s say that if a player is having a winning spin, there is no need to trigger the cashback mechanic.
Now each time you make a bet and that there is no win you will get a cashback which will depend of the game, the promotion available and your status.
Basically if you deposit 100€ and you lose it all, your cashback can reach up to 15% of your of you deposit / loss.
The main countries that are addressed are Germany, Japan and Finland.
I’ll leave the design/logo/brand aspects unanswered as they are mainly a question of taste and market.
I personally like heavy skeuomorphic design like art deco, neo noir, cyberpunk, new retro and other kind of dark stuff. It could be childish (obviously not in UK!) but it has to be in an odd/weird way, like in video games such as Fallout, Bioshock or more recently Cuphead.
We did something similar a long time ago when we designed an affiliate website called Casino Lemonade.
We took a radical opposite approach with SlotsMillion. We followed the flat design 2012 trend. Believe me when I say that I can still feel the frustration this decision has caused to me.
I like the design of JoyCasino for example. I don’t recommend playing there, we’re just talking about design.
@theapple, concerning SlotsMillion’s bonus policy, we have actually increased the budget since April but we don’t reward customers the same way. Basically we used to give 50% bonuses to everyone independently of their experience. Today we tend to be more generous with players that have had a bad session. Players that were not rewarded today because they were lucky may be the ones that will get generous bonuses tomorrow. When we analyzed what was happening to the bonus budget, we found out that 60% of total bonus awarded were turned to real by less than 5% of players.
We designed a model where much more players get benefit of the same budget of bonus awarded keeping the same ratio of bonus turned to real. Consequently our customers became more loyal.
Concerning the softwares, we are getting them on board progressively. Play’n’GO, Yggdrasil, BigTime, WMS, NYX, Bally, Barcrest and others are about to be released.
Netent’s casinoar casinomodule is a Curaçao licensed B2B legacy we have from the time we were the owners of casino.com.ar. We had the main domain for casino in Argentina for more than 10 years and we thought back in time that it would become one of our main markets. That’s why we gave that name to our Netent’s first casinomodule. Nothing to to with an Islamic gambling website
@dunover. Boy, you made me laugh here
Since then Argentina didn’t reveal its full potential and we even lost the domain two years ago mainly because of Nic.ar bureaucratic process to renew the domain.
In January, following the new Maltese directive in igaming, we will move Casino Secret to our Alea MGA licensed module.
The casinosecret.com/uk URL instead of /en is a know issue about to be corrected as the folder is intended to describe a language and not a country, UK not being in the roadmap at this stage.
@Casinomeister, I agree with you on the IP geolocalizacion forcing the language. I’ve already raised this issue. It’s not considered as critical as it doesn’t happen once you log in.
Voila guys, I hope this answers your questions.
