Hi all,

I have been viewing this forum for about a year but have signed up today due to an issue which I experienced at a land based casino yesterday evening to which I would appreciate your views.

I will start by mentioning that having viewed previous threads regarding self exclusion on this forum, I am conscious that it is a sensitive subject and there is an onus on the individual to ensure they refrain from gambling. I am well aware that I have failed in this instance and therefore more than willing to accept criticism in relation to this.

Around two years ago I made the decision to self exclude whilst in a large land based casino in East London. The manager I dealt with at the casino was extremely supportive and explained the process fully. I have since tried to visit the same casino on two occasions since but have been refused entry when I showed my ID. I have also tried to access a different casino in Central London but again was refused entry when asked to show ID. Both instances were dealt with extremely sensitively by the staff involved and I was pleased that the blocks put in place were working.

Yesterday evening I visited a casino in central London which is different to those mentioned previously and was able to gain access without being asked for ID. I was there for around 4 hours playing the slots only at the stake of £5 per spin. I was down around £1000 and was withdrawing cash from the cash machine within the casino. I hit a win' of £1700 and cashed out the ticket from the machine.

I took the ticket to the cash desk where I was asked to provide ID which I did. I was then approached by a manager, accompanied by a security guard who advised me that I needed to leave immediately. I asked if I would receive my winnings, or the amount which I have lost and was told no and to leave. I was provided with a slip of paper that states VSE deposit. Do not cash out without CSE auth. I am happy to post the slip but do not wish to contravene any naming rules. I was also provided with a business card for the casino with a generic enquiries email. The manager was extremely rude, unhelpful and condescending.

Could you please let me know your thoughts as to whether I should receive either my winnings or the deposited amount back from the casino? If any further information is required please let me know and thank you in advance for your assistance.

I dont know how it works in Land based but based on what you told us here, casino has failed here at first place when taking people in without proof of age (in your case ID what shows you are SEd). I think they have to ask that proof before letting anyone in ???

Not sure about refunding you . Everyone can SE and then go and try their luck without any risk of losing.
Casino shold get some kind of punishment for letting you get in tho..

Isn't there a 25 policy where if you look over 25 you don't need to be IDed

Contact the casino through the channels provided by them and maybe your deposits would or could be returned, not checking membership or I d for the purpose of self exclusion is a red flag to start with, the 3 casinos here in Newcastle you either have to sign up to membership or show some form of i d on each occasion I’ve been anyway

A lot of the London ones you can just walk into without ID or being a member and if your unknown to them as a SE, banned or look over 25 your not likely to be asked.

I can't see them releasing any winnings or refunding the "deposits" due to they wont be able to prove exactly how much you went in with or left with and its still the responsibility of the player knowing they are SE to not even attempt to play, that is made quite clear by the UKGC regarding SE.

By walking into a casino you knew the risks that as a SE player if you won a large amount you would have to provide ID as we all do on a large win ( AML ) etc

So sorry, I personally think you should not get either back. Im not saying it was intentional on your part but people try and get a free ride at online casinos using the SE method all the time and people are starting to try it in LB as well. Whether this or not was the case for you only you know.

I would take this as a clear lesson that you're highly unlikely to get a big cash out while you're SE so don't even try.

Thank you to everyone that has responded.

I will contact the casino as suggested above but I am not hopeful based on the replies received.

With regard to the amount of money I spent I appreciate it will be difficult for the casino to validate this. I will have bank records from the casino that will show all of my withdrawals but reconciling how much I spent would be difficult for the casino.

As stated within the post above I fully appreciate I did not fulfill my responsibilities. I can certainty appreciate that people have tried to use this system as a get out of jail free card however I would not have tried to claim anything back if I lost everything, I simply wished to be paid the winnings.

You could pretend that you are a simpleton and say that you excluded from one casino but absolutely had no idea that these two are related in any way.

As a rule, if you exclude from one landbased casino you must make sure you know which are their so-called sister casinos.

It is allowed to exclude your self from one specific and play in others without any probs. I remember I excluded myself from the Victoria casino (Grosvenor casino network) which is on Edgware road because I was dating their dealer. This was done to make sure I don't cause any work-related problems for her.

In Empire, the one in Leicester Square, I'm banned for the rest of their life. I was trying to enter it again and go just for a drink, but their face recognition cameras spotted me immediately and in 5 min time I was asked to leave.

Once I won 3K on roulette in one of its sister casinos and ended up in a similar situation as yours. I told them that I was not aware that casinos are under the same brand and I need my winnings.

They said I have to wait for 3 days and then I will receive a phone call... To be honest I was leaving the casino exactly as the guy in the video below...:D

After a few days, I got that phone call and was invited to collect the money, plus they gave me a list of casinos which I cannot visit.
