ok a little update to this thread this was my reply to my complaint from the ukgc



Thank you for contacting the Gambling Commission.

From the correspondence you have provided, we understand you believe new regulations imposed by the Commission ruins gambling for the portion of the population who are in control of their gambling. You believe that we have the balance wrong and new regulations have forced players to gamble on unregulated casinos.


Our current requirements place a duty on remote operators to monitor gambling and take action where there is a risk of harm. We had identified in our casework that, while remote operators had the ability to interact with those being harmed, there were significant failings by operators to interact appropriately or quickly enough. We continue to see many serious failings with customers spending thousands of pounds in short periods of time and vulnerable customers being harmed. This is why we consulted on tougher rules to tackle this, such as requirements to take action when online operators know a customer is in a vulnerable situation and to put in place some automated solutions.

We will also be bringing forward for consultation proposals to help address three key financial risks that we consider to be priorities for action based on casework and information about financial spend. Those three key financial risks are significant losses in a short space of time, significant losses over time, and financial vulnerability.


The timing of this consultation will be agreed following completion of work alongside the verification and financial sectors and taking into account work with Government on the Review of the Gambling Act 2005.

Our approach is to apply a proportionate approach which does not impact on the majority of customers unduly, but applies measures which would identify and support the most vulnerable. As i am sure you understand, we are not able to control the individuals who make the decision to gamble with unregulated casinos.

Whilst we understand your frustration,we do welcome your feedback and we hope the information has clarified why we have introduced tougher regulations.

I hate when customer service do that "I understand that your issue concerns..." thing, then just repeat what you said back to you, in a rubbish attempt to show they are 'listening'.

This is about the UKGC looking after themselves. Now they can say "look at everything we have done!" our existence is justifiable. And all those people who don't even gamble can pat them on the back and decide they have done a good thing.

Every Government policy has to be tested for equality outcomes. Removing autoplay makes it more difficult for physically disabled people to play slots therefore it is discriminatory.

How so, How would one go about even turning on the autoplay and selecting the settings for it? Every method still requires clicks of some kind. So if you are using some kind of mouse controlled by either your eyes or by your voice then it would not be any different really. Only difference would be by voice they would need to keep using the word click or what ever word they use to make it click the mouse. I really do not even know for sure what type of accessibility methods are available to disabled people though.

If you are unable to operate the game yourself a carer could set it on autoplay for you and then leave you to enjoy it. If there is no autoplay the carer has to click every spin therefore it decreases accessibility for the disabled.

My view? I can’t grasp how anyone can assume the removal of autoplay to be anything but utter sh*t.

I mean to be perfectly honest, Why couldn't the UKGC just make slot providers add a screen just after the loading screen which gives users a message saying if you want autoplay and bonus buys and are not a problem gambler to tick yes to enable those features, then tick no to disable those features. I mean surely this would have been better for everyone? No? I mean obviously everyone would probably choose yes anyway. But that is beside the point. But then the UKGC could have gone further. They could have also made it so that if any gambler used any of the responsible gaming features on a casino they are playing at then by default any slot they play will have all those features disabled by default etc.

But if they never use those responsible gambling features then they will not be disabled either.

I mean look as I have said in the past multiple times, eventually if the UKGC keeps this up and keeps bringing in even more rules it will just drive casinos away and they will just leave the UK market altogether. Then that will just mean the UKGC lose all that money, then it means all the punters will have no choice but to use unregulated casinos. So the UKGC will have to reverse their changes otherwise they are doing the opposite of trying to protect gamblers and problem gamblers but making the situation MUCH WORSE by forcing all gamblers to play at dodgy untrusted unregulated sites.

So THE UKGC are just a joke now. They really are.

I mean I only agree to a few of the changes they have made but all the recent ones and bonus buy ones are actually just 1 step to far.

The measures I agree too are the ones like casinos have to remove the cancel or reverse withdraw options, The no max cashout per week or month options, so in other words casinos have to pay the full amount all at once.

Those 2 are basically the main ones I agree too. All others are just a step to far and should be reversed before it is too late........

From a low deposit and stakes weekend player who never used auto play, and would probably never do a bonus buy (it doesn’t really fit with my low stakes play), I still think the UKGC’s ruling on these two things is a bridge too far.

I can fully appreciate that some players use auto play to control how much they gamble - makes total sense. And with the trend by some providers to make their slots only really pay when you bonus buy (NLC I’m looking at you), these slots are largely unplayable otherwise.

I cannot see the UKGC reversing anything they’ve done as there are many players out there who will continue playing regardless, and casinos will continue making lots of money. Low earnings quarter? Let’s reduce RTPs further.

It would be great to have a UKGC rep on here but I don’t see hell freezing over anytime soon.

They don't care about that, the less casinos the less work for them. If people play on unregulated casinos, again, that's not their problem.

A boring, low RTP, mandatory deposit limited UK market, where the "officially reported" slots gambling spend is going down the pan, will suit them just fine. But when people are physically prevented from playing or spending due to SCV, that's when things will really kick off I think.

I wish a person could. I am now going to close my L and L accounts because they want bank statements from the last 3 months and payslips of which I have none as my wife works full time and I am unable to claim benefits. Absolutely ridiculous stuff going on these days with casinos.

Yeah pretty sad how the whole thing has developed.

As a casino operator these days it surely has to be pretty tempting to go the unlicensed route. Shame it’s all reached the situation it has with these draconian initiatives.
