Bodog Announces They Bought Slots.com

I just found out last night that Calvin Ayre (Bodog Founder) may have purchased the domain slots.com. I am not sure if this is true or not. It seams pretty true since I read it on his website. Did anyone else hear of this? The article claimed that he bought it for 3.8 million.

Bodog Becky posted the story here yesterday, and it's all over the Internet. The price was $5.5 million (GBP 3.8 million).

The domain was auctioned weeks ago, with the identity of the purchaser held back. Apparently the deal was struck after the domain failed to move on the auction (see Casinomeister News).

Yeah I saw her post after I made this one. I just couldnt believe that it sold for $5.5 mil and then that Calvin Ayre was the buyer totally surprised me. But I guess he knows what he is doing. He does own some of the most successful online gambling sites in the industry after all.

Ayre claims that he does not own any online betting sites and is now merely a franchiser of the Bodog brand to people who do operate such sites - like Alwyn Morris at Morris Mohawk.

There are those who disbelieve Ayr's assurance that he is out of the operational side, but he has been careful to structure his affairs so as to confirm the perception that he is what he now claims to be.

His rationale for buying the Slots.com brand is that ultimately it can be franchised in the same way that Bodog is.

Those claims are just so he comes out with his hands clean should things get messy right? I don't know maybe that is too harsh of an assumption but I cannot see any other reason why he would give up ownership of the brand he founded.

Don't get me wrong though, I have tons of respect for the guy and really like the Bodog brand and promote it all the time on our site.

Calvin does not own or operate any online betting sites- he sold the bodog.com operations to Alwyn Morris of MMGG in '06 right after the UIGEA was passed. He does have a partial interest in BodogBrand.com, he is the franchiser of the Bodog brand, and he does assist in guiding the branding message of all the bodog brand licensees. (MMGG, Bodog Europe, Haydock Sports and Bodog Network).

Also, Calvin has just recently launched CalvinAyre.com, a pro-industry news, information, and lifestyle "tablog"- I am the Head On-Site Reporter for this site in addition to acting as the Global Brand Ambassador for BodogBrand.com. If you have a look at CalvinAyre.com, especially at some of his videos, you'll see that Calvin's current lifestyle is certainly not that of someone who runs a big i-gaming operation...trust me, he's living the life!

After baiting the Justice Department and adopting a very high profile in the past, Ayre must be pretty high on the "people we would really like to talk to" list in the USA, so I can understand his desire to completely distance himself from the operational side of the business.

Whether this is perceived to be a de facto change in intention or just another subterfuge depends on your personal opinion on the facts available.

I am not aware of the DOJ giving dude a clean bill of health.

I am aware that dude claimed to becoming to and fro the US at will a year or two ago. (Will find link if requested)..............Some may call that excessive exageration, I prefer and better said, a pathological failure of integrity
