Old rules stay the same with the difference that now you can

1) Split any two cards ( Before splitting 4's,5's or 10's wasn't allowed)

2) Double down on any two cards ( Before only 9-11 was allowed)

Overall this gives better chances to the player. On the other side most players seem to completely throw away the advantage by doubling on 8 against 6 and other silly hits etc.

House edge under old rules: 0.57016% (6 decks)

Houge edge under new rules: 0.47406%

Good news

Sorry for dragging up an old thread, but these rule changes make the UK one of the best places to play BJ. Considering Vegas is now getting stingy and 6/5 cr@p is becoming the norm for $5 and $10 games on the strip, I am wondering if its worth the long trip over there this year!!

However I do like the free beer and craps, decisions decisions

Quite, you have to PAY to have a crap in most parts of London now:D

Dumb question from an American.

Are these blackjack rules set by the government regulatory agency or are they just the casino rules?

I am not 100% sure but a dealer told me a few years ago that all payout rates and game rules are set by the regulator.

It is especially noticeable on craps, where the UK tables pay much better odds on the prop bets.
