Hi again,

Another casino, another issue.

I recently had a problem withdrawing to paypal, this was because I was in Brazil at the time. When I went to withdraw from betfair I had an error message saying 'This action cannot be carried out from your country' I guess betfair detected the IP address or something.

I emailed betfair and explained. To my astonishment there reply was I should ask someone in the UK to access my account and withdraw the funds for me, surely they should not be advising this as it is compromising security?

Any thoughts?

Matt

That is a horrible response. I don't have to look at their T & C to strongly guess they have some kind of statement that you should not share your account info with anyone and that doing do so is a violation.

They have a rep here, but she has not logged in a year.
You could attempt to PM her for help.

I would not accept an answer like that from some CS person telling me to break their rules or the integrity of my account. You need to push this up the ladder.

Considering your answer i figured i would maybe clarify my own:

I am assuming the OP has a good record with Betfair, i.e being a frequent player/ VIP or at least a verified customer, and that as such they would just say that to accommodate him, if this is a first time thing, then i can hardly imagine them stating something like that, but i would also point out that it isn't really likely for them to be saying such things, to then use that as excuse to not pay, as if they wanted to do such a thing, then they probably would have already cancelled his withdrawal due to playing in a restricted country :)

Incrediblestuff. I did not mean that your response was horrible. I actually thought it was reasonable. My anger was directed at the casino's response for someone to share their user information. I work in IT and this kind of behavior just send chills down my spine.
Even if he has someone at home that could do this for him, we have all see the story of the woman who thought she had won some huge amount, i want to say 20K only to find out her husband had logged in behind her and lost it all. Or the man who's daughter used his credit cards to gamble with.

I will always respond very harshly to anyone who tells someone to share their password and account information for anything.

Again, this was not directed at you but at the casino. My apologies if you thought I was being critical of you.

Surely they could do the withdrawal manually from their end. This would be more secure than asking the player to give their details to someone back home to do it.

Maybe they suggested this rather than the alternative, the customer stops playing until they get back home to make the withdrawal, which means that Betfair face a period of time of not making any money from a customer that has obviously just won some of theirs.

The OP seems to have blundered into this hobby somewhat, and is now finding out the hard way almost everything that can go wrong.
