not too long ago i made 5 deposits at a certain casino... these show up in my bank balance...

since i have 2 bank balances i use 1 for gaming and the other for general bills and outgoings....

the casino would only let me play in $'s at the time so deposit amounts for me (were deposits of $50, $100, etc) rounded up to be 85.28, 33.56 etc

so yea these 5 deposits show up in my account... it says the name of the casino... all fine....

i have just logged onto my bank account online... and to my horror im overdrawn...

this was due to 2 more transactions... very odd amounts like 81.30... 31.27

although the full transaction details are not showing up yet im around 80% certain that when the full details show up it will be from this casino... afterall my card is relatively new and all i have used it for before is taking out cash at a cashpoint and buying a few cheap books on amazon

i have never been overdrawn on that card... so now not only will i be getting hefty bank charges (60+) but also its going to negatively effect my credit rating..

anyone able to advise on it? for example if it is the casino then is it known of them taking extra money? maybe for using $ when my bank is ? or charging for withdrawing $?

thanks

That looks like you have been charged for two further deposits, one for $100 and one for $50. The exchange rate would vary with time, which is why the amounts differ from the earlier series of 5.

You should check your statement from within the casino software, which shows the deposits you made there, and reconcile this with your bank statement once you know for certain this latest pair came from the same casino.

If they do, and they were NOT made by you, you have a case for recovery AND compensation for any bank charges that result.

Sometimes, players just get carried away in the moment, and lose count of how many deposits they have made. Other times, the deduction from the bank lags behind the time of deposit, and it may be that earlier deposits did not show up at the bank, and were charged later. If you merely rely on checking current bank balance, you can get caught out by this. It is better to ensure that all deposits you made have been charged, and assume that any that have not WILL turn up later, and allow for it when working out how much you have in the bank.

I have occasionally seen errors on my online credit card statements, where figures for credit left, and current balance, just don't add up. It looks like some "pending" charges are not recorded correctly, and I noticed one occasion where 1000 of deposits didn't show at all, and I was erroneously told I had more credit available than I really did (1000 more in fact). Had I used it, I would have exceeded my credit limit.

thanks for the reply mate, grateful :D... i have seen the full statement online... last night my bank balance was 100 or so, but these 2 transactions that the details arent showing for (only POS: *the amount*) are making my bank balance show - (weirdly enough all transactions from this casino have shown on my statment for the 6th or 8th of this month, the 2 transactions in question have only shown up today and are dated the 7th)

i did check my balance (in the casino), and have just come off the phone from the bank and the casino in question...

on my statement shows 5 transactions... from the casino in question, the other 2 havent shown up... email support have confirmed i deposited 5 times only... my account with them says the same...

their phone support also says 5 transactions have been taken out, and they told me never before have any extra amounts ever gone out on anyone elses account before in this way...

i phoned my bank who phoned another department then called me back to confirm these 2 new amounts from my bank were taken from the casino and that i would be having bank charges :(

edit: looking again 3 of the transactions show as going out fully on the 6th, 2 more show as going out on the 8th... the 1's on the 8th were...

USD 50.00 (33.56)
USD 130.00 (85.28)

they seem to be amounts very close to the 2 amounts that showed up on my bank statement today, although these 2 amounts show as taken out on the 8th, they are tagged "0701" followed by the casino name...

so im thinking quite possibly they could of charged me twice on different dates for these deposits... hmmm

If this is just a problem with processing, causing two extra amounts to be reserved on your account, you shouldnt have to pay the overcharge fees (IMO).
Reserved amounts aren't actually taken from your account, they are just ehm reserved.

Of course if both transactions are processed and finalized, thats something else.

hmmm, maybe that could somewhat be it, the only odd thing is the 2 new transactions in question were dated from the 7th, never heard of something "reserving" an amount for that long (3 days)

im just hoping now that thats why its showing like that, gonna be checking account every 5 mins now until the full casino name shows up next to the transaction or it gets reversed and im back in the + lol

I've had this happen twice...once with an RTG and once with Rival. I have one card I use for online gaming and the RTG somehow took out 2 $100 charges...it was the processer. I didn't notice it for about a week. The RTG in question (once I had emailed copies of my bank statement) gave me the $100 back plus gave me $100 in my account because I was, in fact, overdrawn. Since then I always leave extra just in case. The Rival did the same thing. It is a pain but most of them are very cooperative. I would contact the rep and see what their procedure is. Good luck!

thanks for the reply :D

yeh i'll try doing that, hopefully tonight it wil be sorted 1 way or another, either by the funds going back into my account or it showing up with the casino name so i can get a bank statement from teh bank tomorrow and send it in to them :D

Unlike a US player caught by this, you can be up front with your bank, and this should make it easier to resolve this case.

Once the charges have been fully processed, rather than just "reserved", you have a case. You can show your bank the statement from the casino's end, going back for quite a while would be best, so that you can show conclusively that these charges should not be there, even for earlier deposits that were delayed. You can also show your bank statement to the casino, which will show the name of the casino against the details of the charges.

IF they do not cooperate, you can tell them that you will ask your bank to recover the out of pocket expenses (bank charges) due to the casino's mistake. You would have these rights by LAW when ANY business makes an UNAUTHORISED deduction from your bank.

Your bank does NOT seem to think these are "ghost" charges after checking with the other department.

I belive banks "reserve" the funds up to 5 days, then it automatically gets removed. Its a real pain, as I onc had a rather larger deposit, and for some reason the processing agent took the payment, but for some reason the reserved funds didnt clear.

awesome thanks :D,

im really putting my mind towards thinking thats the problem with it (positive thinking), and i have checked in the full detailed statement online... it does show my full balance as - on the main page (due to the "reserved" funds) however on the statement itself the updated account balance (where it shows next to each transaction) is at "-.-" next to it...

it will be pretty bad if i get charged for being overdrawn as the bank say because of it, cause i dont see why thoese extra funds were reserved, the amount "reserved" or "taken" is similar to the amounts of my last 2 deposits, but with the 3 original deposits just 1 day earlier thers nothing reserved

just to confirm... to my relief... the 2 odd amounts have just disapeared :D and in the full detail of my bank balance it doesnt once go into - :D

clearly this was down to the banks incompentence on the phone by them making me believe that the money had been taken fully by the casino in question and that i would be having bank charges

phew, thats 1 relief out the way :D
