Anyone seen Behind The Candelabra?

I believe it aired on HBO earlier this year - currently available in theaters here in Norway, so I am planning on seeing it tomorrow. Very much looking forward to it :D

You will love this movie, Rainmaker!

Both Matt Damon and Michael Douglas were great in their roles, especially Michael Douglas.

Both these actors really showed their extent of their comfort zone. Amazing performances by both.

I saw it on HBO a few months ago..at least I think I saw it there or maybe Movies on Demand..but anyway.

Another actor that could of played the part of Liberace's lover would of course be Mark Whalberg.

A casting directors leap to fame on this film.

Loved to watch Liberace as a kid on TV
before I knew what 'Gay' was.:)

The performances are excellent--it is graphic.

Without question, the leads provide excellent performances and the movie should sweep the Emmy Awards later this year in the acting and numerous other categories.

Be warned, the movie's homosexual content is graphic and blunt. There is at least one simulated anal sex scene between between Damon and Douglas that IMO really adds only shock value to the film--and I AM gay. The movie has multiple scenes that are sexually graphic.

It offers a brutally realistic portrayal of the lie that Liberache lived for so many decades. Of course if he had not lived that lie, it is unlikely anyone would have ever heard of him because he would have never had the career success he enjoyed had he had been openly homosexual during that time.

This movie was for me--difficult to get through. Maybe the approach is just a bit too dark and heavy handed for me. I think a little more comic relief (just a bit) and about 15 - 20 minutes less running time would have served it well.

Still, it is an interesting and well made film. In addition, the producers and art department do an incredible job recreating the various decades. The make up is also excellent for both Douglas and Damon. Of course Douglas looks too old during parts of the film but they damn near pull it off.

Hope you enjoy it. Please let me know.

I just watched it for the first time a few days ago and it was a great movie! It made me laugh, it made me sad, it was an all-in-one kind of film... Enjoy!
