Americans use phones more for games, Internet
Mobile study finds cell phones are increasingly used more like PCs

Americans' use of non-voice programs on cell phones has "grown dramatically" over the last year, with even more of us using our phones as cameras and video recorders, as well as for e-mail, Internet and playing games, according to a report from the Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project.

"Cell phones have become for many owners an all-purpose chat-text-gaming-photo-sharing media hub that is an essential utility for work and a really fancy toy for fun," said Aaron Smith, Pew research specialist and author of the report, "Mobile Access 2010."

So true. I see countless people with iphones and the like, but I rarely ever see anyone talking to someone on it. They're always playing some game, looking at pics (probably pr0n...lol) and using it for email and the web....

It's a cash cow for the cell companies. They make a ton more money on data plans than they will with the average Joe with an average cell phone with a 400 minute/month plan without SMS, etc. And of course you have to get the unlimited data plan, or else you're going to be paying a fortune in overage charges, seeing as how they charge per megabyte of data transferred...I think some even charge by the kilobyte.
