I asked for an old account to be re-opened at an online casino and was asked to sign some kind of declaration paperwork and fax/scan it back to them. Was only interested in returning to see how they have changed and what new games they have.
Not a problem, the form was sent over digitally so I opened it up, typed in the necessary information and then using the mouse and the 'paint' program, signed my name in the signature box. Easy peasy, saved it and sent it back as an attachment.
I have now received a reply saying they cannot accept it as I did not sign it by hand. Well, I did! All I used was a digital instrument instead of an ink pen to put my signature on the form, so why can't they accept it?
Sod it. I really can't be asked to print it out, sign it (I rarely have a working pen laying about!) and scan it back to them. Besides, my laptop is surprisingly on my lap and the printer is in another room.
So, is my hand written digital signature the same as a pen written signature? They certainly look the same! I am sure they are both legal and binding - much the same as all those digital signatures I do with the postal services when I take in a parcel and sign for it on their handheld gizmo thing.
Besides, they can be awkward by refusing address ID where they cannot see all 4 corners of the statement/letter/utility bill. So what if you miss 1mm off the corner, it shouldn't invalidate the information contained herewith!
Mini rant over. Ok, I'm probably being awkward/petty, I'm tired and it's late!
