MONTGOMERY, Ala. The feuding between the governor and his hand-picked attorney general over electronic bingo gambling machines has become so intense that the Alabama Supreme Court is having to sort out who's right.
A lawsuit appeal from St. Clair County the latest Alabama county to allow electronic bingo machines could decide which Republican official wins, Gov. Bob Riley or Attorney General Troy King. It might also determine the legality of thousands of machines across the state.
Riley picked King as his legal adviser in 2003 and appointed him attorney general in 2004. But the feud between the two Republicans now finds King accusing Riley of trying to usurp his authority as the state's chief legal voice.
