I’d suggest “texted” an almost brilliant invention where you communicate with close friends without having to physically speak and hence hear the tone of the lies in their voice.

Reminds of "Fugue state" a disorder. Dissociative fugue which can involve unusual travel, and can be sometimes accompanied by the realisation of a new identity.

A bit like me when things on the gambling side have gone wrong, I made my way to play, I didn't do that well and now I have dissociated myself from that person that set out. Something like that anyway. :D
