This article is one of the most disturbing things I have ever read. I love animals and cannot abide by animal cruelty. Why can people be so cruel? This woman was jailed but in my opinion its not enough for what she done. She should be publicly caned and then jailed:mad:

I couldn't bring myself to click the link. I cannot bear, nor understand, cruelty to animals. If you hate an animal give it away, shoot it, have it euthanized... but torture.... **shudder** I have always felt that there is something strangely wrong with people who mistreat animals.

This story made me cry. The poor dog was left in the kitchen with no food or water (food was actually outside the locked kitchen door). It took the poor dog 6 days to die. And to make the story more heartbreaking the dog was a rescue and had bad separation anxiety and hated to be alone. The story broke my heart. The woman had no excuse for what she done as she got offers to rehome the dog.
I have a dog whom I love with all my heart and I consider not giving him treats cruelty:) I don't understand how anybody can mistreat them. They must have no hearts at all.

I did click the link, and I am sorry I did. I really don't feel that the picture of the scene was necessary.

18 weeks in jail is not long enough. This woman has a serious psychiatric problem, and I think she is a danger to society.

But at least there is jail time. Many jurisdictions do not have any jail time for animal cruelty. It's only recent years that it was added here.

So check the laws where you live, and petition to have them changed if it is not a criminal offence.

She definitely has some kind of mental problem. If she just hated her dog, it still doesn't explain why she'd leave it rotting in the kitcken for eight weeks. Not only has she lost her sense or decency, she probably doesn't even FEEL the motivation or desire to perform everyday common responsibilities or needs. I don't know if I'd go so far as to say she is a danger to society, but she definitely shouldn't be relied upon to do anything for anyone.

Well at least we can be thankful she won't be a solicitor, she tanked her career by doing this evil deed. I know that other countries don't have prison sentences for animal cruelty but I can't help but feel like she got off easy with 18 weeks in jail. I do like that she is banned from keeping animals for life although I am not sure how they will enforce that over the long run.

There has been a correlation between animal cruelty and other antisocial behaviours so for all we know she could be a psychopath (not all of them become murderers) so it is not inconceivable to think that she might be a danger to society in general.

At the very least she is the scum of the earth in my opinion. To repay her pets love and devotion with cruelty is unforgivable.

You know what's heartbreaking is that I just saw this story on another website and at the bottom I see links to these other stories:

> Pictured: Severely emaciated dog is worst neglect case seen by vet either alive or DEAD

> Pictured: Meet Tiny the abandoned dying dog nursed back to life by new owner

> Woman who MICROWAVED kitten for attacking pet goldfish jailed for 'horrendous cruelty'

> Dog snatched and murdered by yobs who threw it in canal with a brick tied around its neck

> Video: Father and son jailed for ''absolutely inhumane'' torture of foxes, chickens and pigeons

I'm not including the links for obvious reasons. WTF is wrong with people?

On a positive note I read a story last week (can't remember the paper I'm afraid) where a dog was starved and threw down a trash chute. In the picture the dog looked dead. The vet detected life signs and got prompt medical attention. It took a long time but the dog survived and thrived and ended up going to a good home. :)

There are many deranged people in the world but there are also many awesome people who devote their lives to the care of animals. Hopefully animal cruelty laws will get tougher all over the world.

Perhaps my opinion is biased from watching too many hollywood films, but my impression was psychopaths who commit animal cruelty, harm them directly and physically while taking emotional pleasure from doing it. This woman appeared to just "not care". She might not have had a desire to harm her pet, but nore did she care for it in anyway either. Obviously I could be wrong. Looking at her picture, her face lacks emotion. Those paparazzi pics would've been taken while she was being escorted to a police car and people often have some kind of anguish expressed on their faces, but her face NOTHING! Maybe I'm reading too much into it, who knows. Yes if she is a psychopath, then she could be a danger to society and needs to be removed from it.

in the UK murderers get 4 years and toturers get 12 years

looks like they are even more lenient when it comes to animal cruelty

Not all psychopaths are violent but they do display amoral behaviour and this woman fits that bill. She turned down two offers of re-homing the dog and knew full well what would happen when she left the dog. She knowingly locked the dog in the kitchen with the food outside so the dog could not get to it. I do believe she fully intended to kill the dog. The fact that she did not care proves to me that she is either a sociopath or a psychopath.
There is a strong correlation between animal cruelty and future criminal behaviour by the way.
Also it may interest you to know that there are quite a few psychopaths and sociopaths that are in politics, law and business.

That's the same for murderers in Australia (maybe a little longer)...

Animal cruelty is disgusting and is generally reflective of deeper more psychological issues. Sickos like serial killers and rapists are generally known to be involved with this sort of sick stuff. I don't think the punishment fits the crime. But she's gonna cop it in prison, she also won't ever find another law firm that's willing to hire her as well. What kind of law firm is willing to hire someone whose been convicted of this sort of crime versus someone who hasn't? I still don't think the punishment fits the crime. Lock her up and throw away the key.

I saw that photo of the kitchen. That was graphic. I tried to pretend I never saw it. Very depressing.

Many sick killers of humans started their bestial behaviour by first targeting animals. She will herself be a target when released, and can then feel a small part of the suffering the poor dog did.

The part in bold I must've skimmed over. I agree with you :)
