Just thought I would share this blog post.... I am not sure how we as affiliates can proceed from here since we are unregulated. I think it is almost time to give up revshare and move over to flat media buys for many
programs. I work with a handful that I can trust but now I wonder, can I really trust them?

There are only 3 ( THREE ) programs that I trust. Those that know me, will probably know who I consider to be trustworthy 110%. Working as an affiliate on rev share or CPA is a shot in the dark, but alas is the only option for the majority of affiliates.

I don't even want to think about the potential shaving and what not that has occurred to my own accounts over the past decade. Unfortunately this is the nature of the business we work in and will remain the same.

Let's be honest, there is corruption in just about EVERY industry where money or power is involved: Look at FIFA, Volksvagen, Politics, The Olympics, etc... etc...

Unfortunately there is nothing us mere mortals can do about it: we either live with it, or get out of the business.
Sounds defeatist, but realistically what CAN we do?

Clearly some players become de-tagged. Also if you sign up to a place like CasinoRewards or some other group that run a large number of casinos, then your email inbox is probably getting spammed with all of their casinos. I assume that as soon as you sign up to these new casinos, your play there is not tagged to the original affiliate.

However we have to remember that players often quite on a place and move on. I personally do this a lot.

NO you can not trust even your best friend. I feel we will just have to be happy with what we get and just hope the partners we work with are as honest it can get.

I am though confused here why the contact with Net Ent? Clearly would it not be each Casino we would need this data from?

But also yeah like KK says. I will say in my own way. Power is Money and Money is Power. It is a bit like a Pyramid Scheme the ones in the top earns the most and also controls everything. When they want to pull the plug and run away the leave everyone else behind with a bad taste in their mouth.

This has already happened for me now with the crooks from Big Money Scratch (affiliates) who shut down their shop over night (I bet their affiliate program was run in a basement) GPWA made them proudly sponsored but when they shut down no warning was given or sent out to Affiliates. I am getting so called help from GPWA now but what can they do. Every single Affiliate Program can do this to us even the best of them. We don't know what goes on behind their closed curtains. I "only" lost out on around €1500 from these crooks but who knows with the biggest affiliates if some of the best earning programs shut down suddenly overnight.

I am not full time yet. This was my dream couple years back. But now really I am starting to doubt it is worth taking the risk. I now more look at this as a kind of extra earning some months though I would love working full time on this as its my interest and you provide information to fellow other casino players.

I'm just wondering, can online casino's retag players in really known affiliate systems like NetRefer? Because I thought it was impossible, but there are off course more strange things happening like the Betsson thing.

Nothing is impossible. If someone wants to change the data in the backend they could as long as they have the correct access rights to do it. A DBA (Database Administrator) could go in and change data in tables and not leave an audit trail. Anything is possible if someone has the will to do it regardless of the security controls that have been put in place. Someone always has the master key.

Alright, that's not very reassuring. But I guess the best we can do is only work with brands that have a solid reputation.

Unfortunately when money is the main driver in anything you should be prepared to get ripped off. Even the banks are not above bad behaviour, so to expect all casinos operators to behave in a way that is better than the banking system with all their controls is a bit naive.

All you can do is go on recommendation, avoid the ones that have or are getting a bad reputation and put in place your own strategies for dealing with the worst case scenario of a program ripping you off. Spread your risk and to reduce the impact.

One of the things I notice is that I often get an email offer to sign up to the same casino for which I'm already registered. The email always starts with "Register a NEW account........". I find it interesting that they throw in the word "NEW". It suggests that they know that I already have an account which is tagged to another affiliate. However if I sign up again via the email link they provide, then I bet I would only be tagged to the casino.

That would highly likely be a sneaky affiliate email sent on behalf of that casino. Just an coincidence that you already have account with them. They can in most cases get sender email look like it is actually from the casino itself.

I get loads like them constant because I have accounts with so many casinos and also signed up many casino forums or websites or other newsletters where they use your email for promotion abuse.

Ah ok.......well coincidence or not, it still probably results in some people getting untagged! I know most groups have rules against muli-accounting, however, I wonder if this means that the casino group would delete both accounts, or only the 2nd one?

Just to chime in real quick, most casino affiliate programs disallow detagging - just like most casinos have no control over the RTP of their games. The guy who was caught, AFAIK, was caught "tagging" players who had come in under straight Google searches sans affiliate links. There are people who have sworn under oath in a Maltese court of law that this was the case.

Just to add: the only proven case of player detagging was done by C-Planet affiliates who ran their own software - it was not RTG's. The guys detagging players were the same hackers who were arrested a couple of years ago and who were connected with the Affactive group. These are boni-fide criminals who are currently doing time in a UK prison. They were arrested and convicted for extortion crimes against RTG.

Many thanks for posting the link to the article I've written.

As you pointed out, affiliates are extremely vulnerable since the jurisdictions and the governments still refuse to recognize us. This is bit of a misnomer really because without affiliates they won't enjoy the same level of income. I believe that if a program can shave its affiliates it can also shave its players.

Seasoned affiliates have proposed that the vendors provide us with the original stats reports and not the ''bits and pieces'' the programs give us. As such it will give us more leverage over the players we refer and to monitor potential problem gamblers. I understand they don’t want us to see player names and emails for obvious reasons but this should be the only part that is blocked.

Heather Gartland from the TopBoss Group summed it up very well:

The one important factor that’s missing in new legal regulation, is the fact that there is NO protection policies or policing software built into legal regulation and/or licensing laws to protect the affiliate, we need to be protected as well – we are just as vulnerable as the player! In fact, you and other affiliates know how much work, time, money and resources goes into the development of a website or promotion in order to provide good, sound information for our players – Affiliates are the backbone to the online casino industry, which includes the player and their interests.
