So heres the scene..

2 identical slots. Both set at 95% RTP.. Both have had 1 Million spins put thru them @ 1$ a spin…

One machine is hot, and has had a RTP of 175%
Machine 2 is cold and has had a RTP of only 48%

You have 500$ in your pocket and are only going to play one of the two machines for the whole night..

Which would you choose.. Machine 1 the hot machine or machine 2, the cold machine..

Post why you would choose which machine too? Should be interesting

I would play the one next to both of them, it will bonus first...

Silly. The one that will bonus is the one you DIDN'T take :D
And the one you wanted to take, but some 72 year old women beat you to, will jackpot on a quarter bet

Based on the given information I'd take the cold one, as things should even out in the end.

On the other hand it might be better to take machine one, as it looks like its broken, and machine 2 seems to be rigged. :D

If the 48% was an RTP percentage earned off of my coin, I'd probably choose that one - I know, doing what you're not supposed to, chasing your losses.

On the other hand, if I were coming on to both machines anew, I'd choose the hot one.

Pretty even poll so far. I'd take the cold one, simply because the proposition that one 'hot' slot has paid 175% over a million spins is highly unlikely (unless a pooled jackpot was won) and equally one paying 48% over a million spins is unlikely. Not impossible though.
What we do know is that random slots have peaks and troughs, and the only certain thing about 'luck' is that is ALWAYS changes. I would hope that the massive trough on the 48% cold slot was about to change in a big way.....

Technically speaking of course the correct answer is 'It makes no difference whatsoever', and swings of that magnitude away from T-RTP after one million spins (75% over and 52% under) is effectively an impossible scenario on even the highest variance of slots.

All that said, I'd pick the 'cold' slot, even though I know such a thing doesn't exist, I suppose we all succumb a little bit to gamblers' fallacies whether we like it or not :D

Not enough information in the question, I'm afraid.

Are they online slots, or real slots in a B&M casino?
And are they 100% truly random, AWPs, or similarly "weighted" slots?

Obviously if 100% random online slots, then it makes no difference at all no matter how much money has been put through them and how much they have paid out.
So not knowing that info, I have voted "cold" in case the slots are not a truly random online type.

As I would expect from an AWP player...

I don't know many gamblers who'd pick the hot one over the cold one.

"This slot just paid the jackpot and someone just lost $1000 on the other one, which one would you like to play?"

I'd say 99% of slot players would pick the latter, even though it makes no difference.

TBH KK I think that outside of the UK no one has the first idea that compensated/weighted slots such as UK AWPs even exist, they appear to be a uniquely UK phenomenon as far as I can tell.

I am conditioned to always pick the cold game from my many years playing the fruities. With online casinos, I don't worry about which game is hot or cold, I just pick my favourite, and when I win big, I try a dozen games to see if I can "get lucky", sometimes games I have never tried before.

The thing is the latter is actually very true when it comes to UK AWP's, as previous play makes a very big difference to future play, as I used to know and no doubt Chopley and VWM still do know...

The OP's question will be read differently by UK players compared to those abroad for the reason Chopley stated.

Ditto all that

I've added another option for those of us who feel it doesn't matter. I would choose the machine that was closest to a non-smoker. :p

lol, we can't smoke in ours, though given the option, I'd take the smoking section :D

There wasn't a doesn't matter option.. Was just trying to figure out, if you had a choice between the 2, which would you choose.. You would have to pick one, and only one as the first post stated..

And for me, i always pick the slots in smoking section, hate going to play in canada as all there casinos you have to go outside to smoke..

They even smoke in the restaurants. That's why i quit going and play at home now.

For the record, I don't care which machine. I try to not pay attention to how the person before me did so it will not influence my choice, since it should not matter.

Cold one.
As a gambler we always play on HOPE... so since i cant change machines once i start ,... i can still hope the tide will turn from cold to hot.
If i took the 'hot' machine and it wasnt paying.... i'd spend most of the time instead of enjoying... i'd be over analyzing and regretting my choice.
So psychologically, i'd enjoy more on the cold machine.
the outcome is secondary.
