What's the hardest - winning or losing?

I think we have all experienced it.
Just now I deposited 100$ into some casino (name irrelevant) and started playing. Before I knew it, I was up my 20% at 120$ which is usually the stop limit for me (yea I'm a petty gambler). Well I continued and reached some 150$ soon after, then greediness took over and even while the smile was still lingering across my face I was looking at a skinny 14$ account. "You stupid fuck" I could hear my inner voice tell me - "why the hell didn't you stop??". Well at that point I was close to quitting, but hey it was only 14$ now, might as well blow it all away, so sad and beheaved I continued. Well soon after I was at my starting point again - I was thrilled! But I continued...and luckily hit a nice one, which left me at 160$. I instantly hit the "bank" button..........but went back anyway and did one last round remembering I was quitting on a winning streak, which I am told, one should never do :) I lost ofcourse and cashed out at 159$.
However it did not, and does not seem like a win. It is quite depressing really because I did not stop at my usual 20% profit, but got caught up in what which the casinos want you to - greed.
I'm sure I'm not alone in this. I think winning is way more problematic compared to losing - IMO anyway.

RANT END

Happens here too. But if you're playing with money you can afford to lose, it can't be depressing. It's a good thrill, winning a little, losing a little, trying to gain a little more. I was upset once, after spending half an hour gaining $700 playing VP only to lose it all 5 minutes later in slots. The fun can stop quickly when you play dumb.

Losing is definitely the hardest - I'll take winning anytime! ;)
But you're right - I'm sure we all do it - I certainly do.
How many times have I spent an hour grinding away at a game to finally emerge happy and victorious with a lovely $50 profit, only to then blow it in 5 minutes on some other pee-taking crap game? Don't bloody ask!!! :(

But hey - that's the thrill of gambling - a rollercoaster with a completely flat track would be boring as hell! :D

Took a random "Deposit 50 get 50" offer yesterday. A couple of hours later was sitting looking at a 2500 balance. A while later, sat looking at a 70 balance. Fast forward a bit more and I'm at 1400. I cashed out 700 and thanked my lucky stars :D

That tends to be the pattern for me. If I'm up, I'll go bananas. If I lose, it kind of teaches me a lesson and if I'm lucky enough to hit another streak without going broke - I cash out half before I go crazy again!!

I have taken the Simmo advice though recently, and if I hit a REALLY nice win - I'll always cash out a good percentage of it before carrying on. If only those reverse withdrawals weren't soooooo very very tempting heh hee.

Oh, and to answer your question, I think I somewhat prefer winning, ta. :D

playing on slots isn't dumb, that's the only way I ever win. I never win on VP or BJ....only slots..and I've cashed out my two biggest wins online that way ( 20K and 7,500 )

The other day at my land based casino, I played on VP for an hour..and pissed away money. Went to nickel slots, and won $300

A story i am more than familiar with :) The longer a session, the more likely you are to get "blase" about the bankroll. Hence why as Slotster says, i suggest you "pull as you go" and bank a percentage constantly, especially if you play smaller stakes. That way you avoid the temptation of doing silly big bets to alleviate the boredom sometimes experienced. Just remember to either a) ignore the Reverse Withdrawal facility or b) get the Casino to knock it down to 1 hour for you to avoid the temptation :D

Cheers

Simmo!

My experience is exactly the opposite. I have never won anything big on slots, so I am not tempted to play them. I might as well throw the money out of the window. I only ever play slots on no deposit, slots only bonuses. I have done pretty well on BJ and VP, and I am quite happy to become rich slowly but steadily.

I have a sign next to my screen that I wrote out many months ago - I would like to think that it changed my profitability after some hard learned lessons.

"YOU HAVE WON NOTHING TILL YOU CASH OUT!"

Always set a profit / loss limit for each deposit you make (even if the loss limit is the whole deposit at least you can accept the losing of it if thats what happens, just as you should accept the profit of your winning limit, if you get there!) be it an amount of cash or a percentage of the deposit.

When and if you do cash out NEVER reverse the cash-in - why do you think the facility exists, certainly not because the casino expects you to win more!

Never ever bet money you cannot afford to lose (I know its the old chestnut) but this way you can avoid most of the psycho crap that ends in losing even more ie:chasing losses.

I dont want to get any deeper because I'll end up on a soapbox and you will all want to push me off!! :)

Just remember "YOU HAVE WON NOTHING TILL YOU CASH OUT!"

best of luck to all

Oh and I forget this one

"losing is easy but hard to accept, winning is hard but easier to accept"

**Winning and keeping it - loosing and explaining it. Those are the hardest. Guess perfect balance! **

Slotchik, I didn't mean to say that playing slots was dumb. I was referring to overwagering on slots. I could spend an hour gaining a little playing BJ or VP and losing it all playing maximum wagers in slots.

That being said, and although I did win nice amounts in slots, I'm with GrandMaster. I prefer BJ and VP to improve on my bankroll. But I feel I should just avoid wagering too much or expecting too much from slots return.
