Explain to me why in the world that a US facing casino would turn around and pay you with a bank draft on a bank in Singapore? And include a note telling you it can't be cashed, has to be deposited.

You might as well wave a red flag at the bank and tell them your gambling online. Better get my story lined out before I get to the bank tomorrow with it.

is there any treaties against doing a business transaction with Singapore i think we out source a lot of banking tell call centers in that part of the world :confused:

1) I'm 99.999% positive your check has a 9 digit routing number on it. IE ... it's drawn on a US bank in USD.
2) You are told to deposit the check via ATM so that no "story" is necessary.
3) Are you really asking why they're doing this? Ever hear of the UIGEA?

Seriously, bpb, how long do you think I have been gambling online? :D

Yes, I have heard of UIGEA which is the reason I made the post. And no, the note said to deposit it in my bank, do not try and cash it, nothing mentioned about an ATM.

It is actually a draft, I think, from the Singapore bank to Bank of America, payable to me. Never have received anything like this before but there is always a first time.

I have had banks question checks I have deposited that were from companies in the US on major banks. Why would I think that they won't question something like this?

All may work out well or it may not. Won't know until I try.

Congrats on selling that very nice watch your uncle left to you. You know, the one you sold on eBay even though you kind of knew better than to accept a draft from overseas?

labeled,

My thoughts exactly.

In my defense, I won at this casino some time ago and received a check. It was written on a large canadian bank and I was able to cash it with no problem. At no time was I told that this procedure had changed.

Might be much ado about nothing or the stuff could hit the fan.

Jod,

Thanks. Just thru me for a loop when I opened up the envelop.

It will be OK I guess. Worse the bank can do is hold it for days. LOL!

Strange instructions for a check!

I just got a withdrawal confirmation that said the same thing. Do not take the check to a check cashing store, only deposit it into your bank.
I'll see the check in a couple of days I guess, and then decide how to proceed. Seems a bit dodgy, but we really don't have much choice these days.

Follow up

So, the check came today. Only 2 days after approved, not bad. The check looked fine. Drawn on a major US bank with a legit looking company name.
I put it in the bank as instructed. The teller thanked me for my patronage and sent me on my way.

I am sure it will be fine. You are right, they will probobly hold the funds for a few days till it clears...But they do that on checks written on
local banks...Congrats on your win..
P.S. which casino was it?
