I am completely new to slots and I realize that there are very
experienced slot players here.

I lost $518 while wagering <$1800 at <$1.00 per spin

how does this fit in with your experience?

I put the details at the bottom of my AceClub post and then I decided that
maybe some of you could tell me how big the variance is in these games

Let's put it this way. I've deposted over $2500 in the last month with no cashouts. I don't have all the stats, but to me, that would classify as a losing streak. (Normal betting was $1 per spin).

I'm officially done! GL to everyone else who decides to throw money away to these people.

I see in your other post you were playing ISIS, THUNDERSTRUCK and SPRING BREAK.
As you know, these are all 'Bonus Video Slots' and the one problem with these is that if you're not getting the average number of bonus rounds then your bankroll will usually ebb away at quite an alarming rate.
This seems particularly true on Isis which I never play anymore because it just eats money if the feature isn't hitting. :(
In other words, these types of slots are all quite high variance.

It's all a matter of personal preference; some players prefer the high variance type with the potential of a massive feature win e.g. Isis, Mad Hatters, Dolphin Tale...
Then there's the 'middle of the road' Thunderstruck, Spring Break, Ladies Nite, Tally Ho etc..
Or the lower variance slots which usually have 2 different bonus features; Tomb Raider, Halloweenies, Dyno Mite, etc...

The loss you report is not extraordinary - been there, done that!

You lost about 30% of the amount wagered which is quite common. If you don't hit anything substantial, then you are going to lose quickly unless it is a very low variance slot.

If the SCATTERS are dropping a lot, 2 at a time then play on. If you are getting lots of good line wins, continue. If it's dead, download some porn instead and come back to it later.

Here is an EXCELLENT tip. Download a MG casino and play the fun mode. Play it at the stakes you would normally play. Keep playing your favourite slot. EG Play Ladies Nite. Keep playing even if you are not hitting the 'free spins'. Go about 300-500 spins without hitting the 'free spins' and then close your demo/fun casino. Now open your real money MG casino and continue with the SAME game.

Hmmmmmm......

This is very good advice. It won't do a damn thing to improve your results on your real money play, but any time spent in fun-mode is time you aren't spending losing your money in real mode. You'll give the casino less action, thereby losing less in the long run (and short run).

I like to attack from all angles. :) :)

I think if you planned on making money on slots. Rethink your strategy. I think it's important to change up your betting size from time to time. Slots is nothing like BJ in terms of variance. Crazy high in either direction, usually in the negative. I'd bet a lot lower and jump up and down in betting size. Make sure to set a target for a win amount and a loss amount. Like if you spin it 50 times at one slot and nothing hits, move on and hit another slot, etc... It's not really a strategy, but it's better than thinking the bonus round or free spins is gonna come because you haven't hit it in the last 300 spins.

I guess you can make some money at slots, as long as the bonus is large enough. But getting wager requirements at slots is a real grind. Worse than 1-betting a hand at BJ.

i have small sample

i have only small sample size of $137,783 of wagering "almost all' with bonuses
with this result:
Baccarat -5%
Roulette -20%(Microgaming)
VideoPoker -34% !!
BJ -2%
Craps +3%
War +10%
Slots -5%
ALL losses WELL compensated by bonuses of course since i'm a newbie
but I was silly and didn't expect a loss of ~30% over a period of 1800 spins
as I said I practice patience

I really think your doing your head in with trying to compare slots against other casino games; eg table games.

Slots are another kettle of fish altogether.

Slots have no strategy, zip, zero.

I've sunk 1000s into say Ladies Night in one session & not hit any decent wins (closed and played another slot) returned 1/2 hour later to find the thing hitting left, right and center.

No rhyme or reason, best to resolve yourself to lady luck being your best friend, when it comes to slots :D

You have no strategy

You have no strategy in playing the slots in my book it's
Right Time
Right Slot
Right Place
This is for online But as in for offline
All the above
And
Always pick one at each end of a row that's were you get most traffic or pick one where you do have the traffic going by you.
That's my feeling
