Worst Parent of the Week: Dad Puts Toddler in Washing Machine and Turns it On

There's no way to know what the parents were thinking. Maybe they were trying to scare their kid into good behavior. Maybe they were just goofing around. Maybe they thought it would be funny -- there's a large sign hanging above the machines, saying "Junior Wash: $2.95." Whatever it was, it could have easily ended in tragedy.

What I don't understand is why they weren't arrested?

Anyone that has ever used a laundromat knows that you can't get a side loading washer open after it has started. It wasn't a joke, it wasn't an accident. They did it on purpose and as such, should be arrested for child endangerment at the least.

It looks like a domestic argument gone wrong. The man sticks the kid in, but it seems the woman tries to stop him. He soon runs off, but comes back again, perhaps realising how serious what he has done is. They both leave as soon as staff get the kid out, no doubt avoiding immediate arrest.

The kid could have been from the woman's former partner, and the man had no real bond with it, perhaps even feeling it got in the way.

There's no shortage of stupid parents. This one made my local news last week:

ALOHA, Ore. – An Aloha mom was arrested after her two-year-old daughter was found wandering alone four times last week.
On all four occasions, the child was found along a busy stretch of 185th Avenue, near Johnson Street.

Monsey, NY

Talk about careless parenting:

I drive every morning in Monsey, NY...the little kids are running around without their parents...4-8 years of age on the VERY edge of the sidewalk...its scary driving around there at times!

It's a Hasidic Jewish community and all about 'family'. They love their kids and it's a pretty awesome place BUT...all it takes is a little child to trip or fall down in front of the crazy drivers...its not good!

It certainly baffles the mind that some professed "adults" can act in such bizarre manners. We had an extremely sad incident in our area this weekend involving a 3 year old child who will never get to grow up because her father took her life and his own in such a masochistic manner.

The father had tied up the mother and put her in the car, took the child in the house and shot her, then shot himself and then torched the house. The child died from smoke inhalation. What kind of parent does THAT to their child???
