if anyone has any cool VP or SLOTS (preferably MG) wallpaper, it would be great if you could post them here

im gonna try and make one of my own - not just the standard screenshot, but manipulated shots or pics using playing cards and/or slot symbols and stuff

thanks

I had been thinking along similar lines. Last couple of days i have been playing with Photoshop again which i had neglected for a good while. Just depressing how quickly you lose stuff and become rusty; i kept on thinking "now, how did i used to do this".

I haven't any set ideas yet for a wallpaper. Typically, once i embark on PS, the program takes over and leads me in totally different directions from where i originally set out.

Just wanted to touch base on a couple of things: what would be a good size for this wallpaper and what would be a good size for posting it here (assuming anything develops)? I also presume that any screen shots posted here in these forums would be fair game. After all, they are only screen shots and not copyrighted stuff, like photographs.

Curious what you come up with me, cheekymonkey. Post it once you have something.

This was Photoshopped by a friend after I got it off a casino's website. Before anyone cries foul, it was offered for free specifically as wallpaper, I've checked and the casino that offered it is no longer up and running.

It's my current wallpaper, but I had to modify the size in order to post it:

Very cool image, Macgyver. It would be difficult to do something like that from scratch, not having the requisite props.

Btw, what size did you use for posting here? As you will notice, it's still too big and already bursting out of the page. Give us some idea what size this one is then we'll have something to play with and downsize accordingly. It's gonna be tough posting wallpapers here because you're gonna lose a lot of detail if you reduce it a lot.

And oh, i would hate that image as my wallpaper. It would constantly remind me that the dealer will get a bunch of little cards and he ought to go bust but OH NO, he will land the perfect card to get 21.

When I initially tried to post it here, it said the file size was too big ... the JPG limit on size here is 195.3 kb and my original file was 220 kb (if memory serves).

I simply used Photoshop and reduced the image size by width and height to 640 width and 471 height (which reduced the size to 92kb). I'm sure the same could be done in Paint, if need be.

I love it myself ... online blackjack has been my game for a while now and has changed my life much for the better, even apart from actually gambling on it. I know I'm probably one of the rare few who are that lucky, and I'm enjoying it while it lasts.

So, if we keep the width to 600 px, maybe even 620 px, we should be okay and end up with orderly forum pages.

I just noticed this ... it's not "bursting out of the page" for me?

Everything is lined up just fine ... I'm using Firefox if that makes a difference?

EDIT: Looks just fine when I use IE, too. 2x

Hmmm, for me your post is wider on both sides compared to the one above and below. That's the result of the image. Just wanted to make sure that we all line up our images. If it really looks okay for you, i'll be more than happy to post a partial screen shot.

cheers guys

i was just wondering if anyone had any original wallpaper

im gonna muck about with PS and see what i can come up with, but yes managra, when i open up and play with PS i seem to end up in a different direction too - :D i doubt i will be posting immediately, as im not an expert (or artist come to that) but ill try and come up with something funky

managra - i like your avatar by the way! something along those lines seems pretty good :D :D

Well, here goes . . . first attempt at a wallpaper. Obviously, it was inspired by Slotster's happy run last Sat and he posted a rich lode to harvest from. And truth be told, i'm actually stinking jealous of his results.

It took me a long time to make some order out of all the busy elements and pull it together. Lotsa stuff that i cleaned up, manipulated, blablabla but then decided not to use after all. Am still debating about the Harvey bonus stuff in lower left. Any feedback, other than a mere "it sucks", will be greatly appreciated. The whole PS file is about 20Mb, 1440 by 1152 px, or 20 by 16 inches. For posting here, it has been reduced to 600 x 480 px.

While i was working on this, i started to get concerned about copyright implications. It's no longer a mere screenshot but a new image with heavy borrowing of MG trademark/copyright material. If CM has qualms about seeing this posted here, please advise and i'll delete it. Next time i'll do something more generic, such as the blackjack table image Macgyver posted above.

I wouldn't worry about this unless you were planning to sell it :D

If it's merely a conglomeration of images to be used on your own personal computer - I wouldn't worry about it. The MG graphic artists would probably be flattered.

As for a screenshot critique - it looks really good except I would perhaps lose the Harvey's graphic on the lower left - or at least make the stem of the champagne glass show through the "Congratulations..." image. But that layer's opacity should be increased a bit since it's a little hard to read.

Just my two cents :D

Thanks, CM - just wanted to know what sort of things you would or wouldn't tolerate on YOUR site. Thanks for the critique as well. Agree with what you said above the Harvey stuff. The problem is that the glass does not have a stem (it comes straight from Harveys) and i didn't feel like fiddling with drawing and so on. Back to the drawing board.

well done managra - thats brilliant stuff

just the type of thing im looking for!! :D :D

ill probably start mine at the w/e as too busy at work at the mo, but thanks again....n1!

Cheekymonkey: thanks for the nice words . . . but brilliant??? Am in the process of revising it and will post it lateron today. Hope you can have a look at it and give me some feedback. Good luck with your wallpaper project; look forward to seeing it here.

Slotster: thanks for your generous offer. However, i would dearly love to have my very own collection of fantastic screenshots (to turn into a wallpaper or not). I'm still trying to spruce this one up. When it's done, i'll be happy to email you a bigger file if you're interested in it.

Nafanny: nice idea. It's a pity that you can only post small images of the wallpapers here. They look a lot better in a bigger size.

Awesome job, I think it looks great!! Sure wish I knew how to do stuff like that...is it much harder than sending an email? :D

LOL. Yes, it's harder than sending email but it's easier than winning biiiig in slots. Well, i've fiddled with it some more:

Edit: the background is really cool but you can't see much of it when this much reduced in size for the web.

Not so sure about that Managra, may as well ask me to split an atom and build a nuclear bomb, lol. It looks good, really good. And my five year old just gave her stamp of approval as well. She thinks it looks "cool".

Dynamic Winner Screenshot Desktop!

Ok...here you go :D This thread gave me an idea...thought it would be cool to have "Winner Screenshots" upload direct to peoples desktop in near real-time. So anyone with the Windows "Active Desktop" can add this (See screenshot below) and see/upload new screenshots for all to see :) It shows the latest 4 screenshots at present. (Incidentally, that URL in the screenshot doesnt appear on your desktop! Its just there in case the URL in the instructions truncates below)

Its only HTML and PHP so nothing that poses a security risk by the way.

Do the following to add it to the Active Desktop:

1) Right click on your desktop and choose "Properties"
2) Click on the "Desktop" tab and then click "Customise Desktop"
3) Click on the "Web" tab and click "New"
4) In the popup panel, enter the URL Outdated URL (Invalid) (as in the screenshot below)
5) Click "OK" when prompted to Synchronise the page.
6) Finally, click "OK" to close the "Web" tab and click "Apply" on the Desktop tab.

Now you can drag and resize the active page (see picture below) as you see fit. It will stay on the desktop and come back on reboot (til you close it). It refreshes itself every 30 minutes with the latest screenshots. You can mouseover the main screenshot to see that persons comment and click any of the screenshots to see the full-size version.

Another benefit is that when you upload, you dont need to resize it down first....800x600 is fine if you prefer :) It uses a PHP class to automatically resize each image to fit and maintain quality. You can upload your screenshots to it using the panel.

There's so much more i can do with this but here's a starting point...be interested to see what people think and if its useful, i will happily expand it. let me know any ideas you have.

Cheers

From a strictly legal point of view a screen shot of a game is reproduction of the protected images used in that game. Posting the screenshot is making it available to the public. Both of these acts are exclusive rights of the copyright holder and as such would require prior authorization.

In this case the reproduction and making available to the public would probably fall under the limitations and exceptions rules of copyright law (fair use in the US). However, the fact that reproduction and/or making available to the public has no commercial or monetary value is irrelevant from the legal point of view. These rights are usually further restricted in the license agreements as well.

I'm just posting a general legal observation here (I'm a copyright lawyer). In reality MG is probably happy to see their software look and feel posted in such places as Casinomeister.

I'm no lawyer, but i'd add that MG allow their licencees to use the game shots for promotional purposes and in turn the casinos pass these on to affiliates to use on websites. So presumably, even if there were ever to be a court case, this could be used by the defence counsel as a precedent one would assume?

The extent of use allowed for promotional use is based on a specific term of the agreement in these cases and has been authorized by the copyright holder. Making a screenshot and using it without authorization is another matter. It falls within the scope of copyright, that was my point.

The practical implications in this case are non-existing. On the contrary, it's free publicity and I'd assume most welcomed by the developer. :)

Okay - here's a quick Version 1.2 before i go to bed :) I made the scrollbars invisible. So (screenshot below) you can now drag it around the desktop and resize it to remove the ugly "upload" panel. Just reveal it when you need it by dragging the bottom border down :D

Thought i dredge this thread up 'cos i have finally gone into BETA on www.winthemes.com which was inspired by this thread. The project got a bit bigger than i anticipated :)

It also has the beta of the new Game Buddy in there (Old / Expired Link. So if anyone came up with any real decent wallpapers I can add...! And if anyone fancies helping me Beta-test it, i'd be eternally grateful by handing out some "Thanks!" :D
