From today's Sportbookreview.com newswire:

VIP (SBR rating A) and sister books no longer accepting new clients from the United States and Canada. Canada-based users will have access to their accounts until April 1st but new deposits will not be accepted. Existing U.S. customers that have deposited in the past may continue to use their accounts as normal. Phone wagering will no longer be offered. Customer service by phone will continue as normal.

Can someone explain this recent trend of dumping Canadian players?? I am sooo confused.

it certainly blows. and i can't even get my friends to start gambling. i tell them all about my exploits, and they still think it's too risky or don't want to reveal their address/phone to casinos and/or bank details to a webwallet. ijits!

it's probably my fault the sites are dropping us hosers. i'm too vocal here on meisterforums. ;)

a few other random ones i know of who ban canadians are hit stardust, betdirect, and another one that escapes me currently...

Wow, I can't figure out why they wouldn't want to send copies of their sensitive personal information to exotic offshore destinations like; Costa Rica, Antigua, or Curacao?

Maybe they're getting revenge for Canada pumping out Celine Dion, as well as Bryan Adams? :D

Bwahahaha. With all her money Celine wore a (horrid) used dress for the red carpet the other night. But sappy as Bryan's popular songs may have been, he SLAYYYYED in roger water's 'The Wall Live in Berlin'.

Seriously, this is a disturbing trend.... Canadians used to wait several years before adopting US ways; that way, we were their lab rats. I pity my northern neighbors if they don't incubate US idiocy a few years before unleashing it on their culture.

Could it be that VIP is abandoning us Canadians in order to court a takeover bid by Bodog? Just a theory I heard elsewhere.

Either way, I'm unhappy with their decision to abandon this country. I've dropped a bit of cash there lately, in an attempt to change their minds.

If this is true, why wouldn't Bodog want Canadians?

Canada

What surprises me is the fact that, while seemingly "scared" of accepting ANY money from Canadian players, they are still prepared to accept wagers from AMERICAN players of long standing while the US DoJ has been taking extremely robust action against internet gambling, and the VIP.Com sportbook operation is most definitely illegal in the US under the wire act.

Rumour is that they are restructuring, and it is just possible that they have struck a deal with some entity which gives away Canada (an agreement not to compete there, also illegal under US "anti-trust" laws - not sure about Canadian laws). They have just notified Gone Gambling that they are taking a break from advertising there, which also means they have pulled out of the GG bonuses. This will not take effect till mid March though.
It certainly looks like something major is happening over at VIP HQ.

Because Bodog has some of its operations based in Canada it is not allowed to accept Canadian players :(
