Tips Videoslots spam

Hi guys,

I am still handling this with our affiliate team to figure out where the emails are coming from. I will keep you updated, and if you would receive a similar email again please send me a PM directly.

Br,
Daniel.

How can you still be 100% sure? It can be someone who tries to screw them. Easy to get an affiliate code and send out emails in their name.

As its extremely rare an affiliate gets an account closed for this, I think thats unlikely, the affiliate is more likely to benefit from it.

He doesn't have videoslots on his site either, so not sure where the link would come from.

Lets not forget, @Dan.Videoslots has only been looking into this affiliate now for 15 months, so not sure how quick we are going to get a reply, or if they care at all

What I mean is that if I for example don’t like you for whatever reason I can send out a spam with you’re affiliate links in it. I’m not saying this is the case here though but I’m just saying it is maybe not so easy to just click on the link and see whose affiliate link it is and then shut them down.

If you did that to me, as an example, I would notice the massive increase in traffic, and contact the program to find out where it was coming from. Then take it from there. Get the link deactivated would be the first thing I did though.

There are plenty of places on the internet to buy email addresses. Probably yours "leaked" somewhere. I advise not to register on any crappy gambling forums as your details including email address can easily be sold.
For casino affiliates who use black hat techniques, email address database is one of the best things to get many signups.

Or casinos seeing as a lot of spam I get comes from their databases directly (guts, netbet in particular)
Black hat is also a very quick way to get your account closed, gone are the days when you could cookie drop on forums and suchlike.

How hard can it be to trace these wankers sending this Dan? Nobody sends this shite out unless there is potential financial gain for themselves. Perhaps the ICO would resolve it faster.

It is easy. Use a "mystery shopper" player who will sign up via the spam, but will also keep all evidence of the process for analysis. A critical step is, of course, making sure tracking is working so that the mystery shopper is tagged, and then gives all the info needed to connect the spam link with a tagged player on someone's affiliate account. This can be done in minutes, not months.

There seems to be a lack of will, not a lack of technical ability, perhaps hoping the issue will "go away" and not need to be formally addressed.

Casinos should be aware that the UKGC is taking this very seriously and has already issued hefty fines to some operators who were unwilling to put the necessary effort into policing affiliates. Players who get the impression that they are getting nowhere taking the matter up through the casino's internal processes may well decide to go to the UKGC or the ICO in order to get some action.

Hello Colinsunderland.

We have requested this from the Affiliate and since we have not yet received any reply or the requested proof, our next step was to block the account and shut down the links. The incident in April 2017 was two contacts as far as I recall, and the e-mails stopped once we spoke to the affiliate after receiving the reports.

Best regards,
Daniel.

Link in the email still takes me to videoslots, so it hasn't been 404'd, something you said a year or so ago you would ensure would happen in the future.

What difference does it make if an affiliate spams one customer or a million. Fact is, they were spamming customers 15 months ago and you allowed them to continue, as evidenced by the reports here. The only reason I'm not going to report this to the ICO is it's you and I'm sure it wasn't deliberate, but doesn't change the fact you allowed a spammer to keep spamming.

You do know that's pretty much the worst advice you can give?

This is why casinos who run promotions that require a minimum post count should have a rule of total posts made before it starts, otherwise you end up with this kinda rubbish.

I mean it was his 10th post and literally 1 minute later claims a promotion that requires 10 posts, he could have at least made a bit more effort.

While it obviously would be reasonable to "just unsubscribe" it doesnt really do anything apart from confirming that you have indeed received the Mail. It is highly doubtful that this will actually remove you from the Mailing list of some Spammer. If it comes from some Company actually risking to lose their reputation for not removing you from the Mailing list sure, fair enough... i dont believe that a spammer is going to care though. at all.

Hello colinsunderland,

I will investigate further regarding the link, thank you for letting me know.

Br,
Daniel.

And it still takes me to videoslots homepage.
While you may have closed the spammers account down, not closing the link down means you still benefit from the spam, making you just as bad as them.
