When things like this happen, i always wonder what the reason behind it and who it benefits. Strikes like this don’t happen out of the blue.

Logically, after Israel/US hit Iran’s gas sector, they would expect Iran to strike back in the same way, most likely targeting energy infrastructure in Gulf countries linked to the US or its allies.

The thing is, what’s the point? Are Israel or the US trying to drag Gulf countries into a war with Iran, or do they simply not care what they strike as long as it hurts the enemy, regardless of the consequences?

I'd say there more heavily defended. In the 12 day war iran seemed to target more important areas like downtown tel aviv, haifa and the mossad buildings etc , whereas now they seem to target more sub urban civilian areas which mightnt be as heavily defended .

These are Israel’s gas resources that have allowed it to become self sufficient in natural gas and electricity generation. It would be nuts if Iran destroyed them or even if Hezbollah sent a few drones over. A shutdown would leave the country fecked. My guess is that Iran doesn’t strike them because Israel would retaliate with some kind of dirty trick..

I didn’t know that Ras Laffan in Qatar is the world’s biggest LNG production complex. Based on reports, this is the 2nd time Iran has hit it. It has disrupted a large chunk of global LNG supply. Gas prices will go through the roof if the strikes continue. I see the EU is sounding like "everything is fine" to avoid panic.

I’m not sure whether Iran hit Qatar after Trump’s message, but some reports say it happened either after or very close in time. Many on X comment, get rid of the US base in Qatar and you’re safe. European gas jumped by 30% or close to that after the attacks on Qatar's gas field.

I also see reports that Iran hit the Yanbu oil refinery, which is now the only crude export spot for Saudi Arabia. It’s on the Red Sea coast, so quite a bit of oil likely goes from there to Europe through the Suez Canal.

If Iran’s South Pars gets hit, it would likely be a disaster for them because, as i understand it, their electricity generation runs on gas. In that case, probably Azerbaijan would be the quickest fix (in small amounts), not Russia, as it is next to Iran and has enough gas. But Azerbaijan is a bit of a strange place to me in terms of whose side it’s on. Some speculate they have Israeli bases there, but at the same time sends humanitarian aid to Iran.
