I'll try not to be too long winded here.... but you know me...
Mar 17th was our 30th wedding anniversary. We usually try to do a gambo trip in March for the occasion. Previous trips to the Goldstrike (MGM m-life comp system) had been very nice. Had free room, free food, free play, plus a spin to win entry for Monday night (won $100 freeplay on my spin). There were minor problems this trip that compounded to the point of making us less than happy campers. We go on Sun/Mon nights for a reason - we don't like crowds. Hubby still must not be in very crowded public areas nor is he to eat buffet food (due to the prevalence of germs and his weakened immune system).
Asked for a room mid-hall or nearer elevator. Got a room all the way at the far end. Nothing else free we were told, even though I'd made reservations with my request a week earlier. Dresser drawers were so sticky as to be unusuable (we could get them open fine, but it took both of us to force it closed). The safe wouldn't lock. I've worked in hotel/housekeeping and I know these things should have been repaired before assigning the room.
The casino and hotel were packed for the 2 nights we were there. Buses were coming in from every where in the free world I think.
There was a 30+ minute wait to eat at the Atrium Cafe. Many tables were clean, vacant in the dining area but they were giving out the little pagers to everyone who came to the desk. I've worked restaurants before so that told me one or both of the following was the case: they didn't have enough wait staff on duty, and/or the kitchen was understaffed.
Gaming was a pain... very difficult to play machines I wanted. Hubby spent more time in the room than in the casino due to the mass of people there. They've removed the one and only White Orchid slot they had. (I generally used it like an ATM... LOL) I did find a 9/6 DDB VP machine on the ground floor, but usually someone was on it. Cocktail waitresses were like ghosts, I'd see empty drink glasses in areas I'd play in, but never see a server. After two hours in one area, parched, irritable and tired of being elbowed by the less than sober lady beside me squealing like a banshee every time she hit for 25 cents or more, I gave up and went to the gift shop for a Mountain Dew and on up to the room --- it was 7:30 p.m. I went back down around 10:00 and there were a few less people about and found a Zeus2 I'd not played before. A Dangerous Beauty which had been nice to me previous wasn't so nice anymore. LOL Anyway... managed to lose my day's allotment in an hour or so with no significant hits on anything.
Monday afternoon we spent at the quieter Roadhouse (former Sheraton) where I parked on VP for awhile, beverage service was quick (they use the server request software on their machines - just punch in what you want and voila! the drink shows up 5 minutes later) and played some slots I hadn't seen before (and lost). Hubby played enough blackjack to earn us a nice comp at their little diner. No wait, and good food. He hit for $250 on a .50/2 coin 3 reeler while waiting on me to return from the restroom.
In the end, due to Hubby's couple of runs on BJ, decent hits on Wheel of Fortune and other .25 and .50 slots, and my lack of enthusiasm for playing -- and losing every where I went - resulted in us coming home with most of our gambling funds in hand. I know my comps will be cut due to the lack of playthrough, but I can't help it. Money in, money gone (like playing RTGs online fer heaven's sake 
) does not build comps.
GS sent me a survey after we arrived home and I gave them an earfull- nicely, but I told my little tale. Yesterday, a manager phoned and we had a nice long conversation. He has promised room upgrades and comps for our next visit. We'll see. .... We still may stay at the Roadhouse instead...
I know this makes me sound like an intolerant bitch, but all these little things compounded to make our stay less than pleasant. We only get to get away for 2 days a couple of times a year (knock-on-wood - when everyone around me is healthy) and dammit, I want to enjoy it.

) when I am shoving money in to a slot machine! The hotel room has to be clean (it doesn't matter if you are paying for it or it is comped)...there is NO excuse. I've been known to go get my own clean sheets from housekeeping if they don't look clean!
