Looks like the KSA is one step closer to the de facto monopoly they were looking for...

("Unfortunately, tombola Netherlands is closing!")
(auto-translated)

Unfortunately, the raffle is closed from October 1st

We find it very regrettable that tombola International PLC is pulling the plug on tombola Nederland. Exactly 3 years after tombola Nederland received the license, it is over. The consideration of tombola International PLC is based, among other things, on the required technical resource investment.
The conclusion is that resources can be better deployed in larger or new markets. In addition, stricter regulations and gambling tax increases are also coming. All these reasons have played a role in closing the doors for good.
We understand that this is drastic news for our players. The Netherlands has a great bingo community. We will miss our players very much. How things will continue with the bingo enthusiast in the Netherlands will become clear in the coming period.

As for the timeline:
  • The progressive jackpot will be marked for termination from today.
  • Deposits will stop on September 27th.
  • Games will stop on September 30th.
  • Site will close on October 27th, 2024.

Oh dear.

Licensing issues or not being able to make enough money?

Either way, it's one less option for the good folk in the Netherlands.

Gaming tax goes to like 40% plus there is a deposit limit of 300 for your adults and 700 for 25s+
You can increase that, but you need to show you can afford it: bank statements, pay slip, tax returns etc.

Hmm, just reading that Holland Casino (about 20% market share) also stops offering Bingo. So bingo players are left with Unibet's and Bet365 bingo.

That is quite a stark shift then:
  • Tombola used their own in-house platform
  • Holland Casino used Virtue Fusion
  • I know Unibet UK uses Relax Bingo - looks nice, but limited liquidity
  • I know Bet365 UK uses Pragmatic Bingo - somehow looks more dated than VF that hasn't had a significant revamp in 10 years, and I've seen ghost towns with more activity.
If they don't have a GVC/Entain option either, not leaving them much choice!

State lottery obtained a bingo license last week, not sure what software/solution they go live with but that will be offered on their WiniTT brand.
