"Tight" machines

Hi there all, Ok so I played last night at an acccredited casino "777 dragon" (thanks casinomeister) I played cash clams and then got up to close to $300, I should of cashed out but thought for sure I would hit the big mark, anyway, I ended up losing it all. Lesson learned. I didn't really "lose" cause after reading a positive post from here about 777 dragon thought I'd check it out and when connecting there was money in there I didn't even know about. Sorry, not sure who it was to thank about the post. Anyway, today I played the same machine at yukon gold and the machine seemed tight and jumpy? Is this my computer or can they control this? I have lost quite a bit (for me) at this casino in the past couple weeks (only reason I played again there was cause they put a screw up withdrawal back into my account) so I thought I'd give it a go again. Mistake. But does anyone know anything about the machines and how they run? Any reply appreciated.:what:

Both those casinos are Microgaming and the casinos have no control over the payouts - same probabilities at both

I haven't the foggiest on how these machines run (that is just another of lifes greatest mysteries) but the jumpy/ jerkiness of the machine would just be your internet connection :)

From the type of questions you are posting , I am assuming you are new to internet gambling. You wont go wrong by checking out Kasino Kings website (link on the bottom of his posts). It is full of good advice on how to have fun with the machines without getting burnt

But please, please keep in mind that you CANNOT make a profit on slots EVER.
You will lose at whatever casino you play, no matter how highly it is recommended.

Yes...but I wouldn't mind betting it's caused by all the game downloads happening in background! I get this whenever new games are released or when I install a new MG casino - for hours in the latter instance.

I've noticed RTG slots stutter a fair bit, but this is resetting the reels - because they run more slowly, the resets are more obvious. But that's kinda irrelevant here :D

Really?

You cant profit on slots? How come? Then what's the best game to play that you can profit from? Am I being a pain in the backside asking all these questions? Hopefully not to much. Anyway I'm assuming poker is the game? I did win $1000 and then $300 before at slots but yeh have lost quickly. Please let me know if I am doing anything in this forum frowned upon. It's ok, I can take it I'm a big girl. Thanks for all of your help & patience! Geez, i really hope I'm even replying to the person I wanted to & not to myself?

It's rare to find any game you will profit from over the long term due to the "house edge", although with any game there is the chance for short term profits of course. Worth doing a search for recent threads on "variance" for more on slots odds/streaks. Poker (not Video Poker) is a game that combines skill and luck, so a good player can profit in the longer term, at teh expense of less skilled players. But that's a different fish. Video poker is a game of chance. Although a strategy is usually required, it is still merely required to meet the "expected return", which gain will usually be less than 100%.

Games with over 100% expected return are few and far between. I've seen one or two video poker games, but these will generally be "high variance" meaning you will need a decent bankroll and plenty of time to get positive. Even then, one smal stretegy error could make the difference between +ER and -ER. Plus, the "law of the gambler" means it is virtually impossible to quit at exactly the right point to guarantee the 100%+.

Always assume you are going to lose and go from there ;)

That's the best bit of advice you could give any new gambler.

Even after my 6-years of regular winning I still expect to lose. I start every new month with great trepidation - almost scared to make any deposits. (I haven't made any in April yet - mostly because I haven't finished all the WR's from March... )

I have proved (to myself, if not to anyone else) that it is possible to win month after month by use of bonuses, specific strategies, restraints & self control. And I even do this many times playing slots only (mostly at MG casinos).

Gambling is dangerous, and should be treated as such.
Set your limits & stick to them. Then relax & have fun! ;)

Land based v Online?

Wow, you guys really know your stuff. Thank you for the help, it will save me much grief in the long run. I am still al little confused re: poker v video poker, I am a pretty good poker player, but still have a lot to learn. Your right when you say that I should stay within my means. It is very tempting when the computer is so covenient. What do you think about land casinos v online casinos? I mean odds & such? Thanks again!:)
