Manchester  Now that was a surprise. Better than Blackpool IMO but not as handy as the Dome...err...O2 :)

Interesting the BBC files the story under "politics" ;)

Quite

I read it.
Seems placing the casino in the POOREST area of Manchester was better than Blackpool or the Dome, as it's location puts it in easy reach of 3 Million potential gamblers:what: .
Surely, it would have been better to place it where it was easily accessed by a lot of RICH people:confused:

Manchester needs to ensure the motorway network goes straight to it, and easily - I can't imagine high rollers wanting to drive through deprived parts of Manchester in their BMW's and Rollers to get there, let alone PARK!

That was the first thing trhat crossed my mind. regenerate the area THEN I'll visit :) I know Withenshawe from days of old and if the area is like that, it ain't pretty :D

It's all very exciting isn't it.

Originally, one of the options was going to be the Wembley Stadium complex. I am a bit gutted as I am a stones throw from there - oh well.

Never been to Manchester in my life, but I have probably have a reason to now!

Any idea how long it will take to build and be up and running?

This is *fantastic* news...

Manchester have always done things better than anywhere else... Football, Music... Now casino's!

East Manchester in January, right next to the City ground, on the outskirts of Openshaw and Beswick (think "Shameless") - it'll be just like Vegas :D

Yeah - f**k Vegas.

Manchester rocks man - lol!!!

Apart from the football bit actually.

Arsenal rock on that one!

Yeah 1-0 and 2-1 says he's right :D

I wonder how long it will be before the licencing procedures are relaxed and Blackpool and the Dome get permission as well?

Blackpool are (should be!) gutted and are talking about fighting it:

. Sensible as it will pretty much guarantee them a future one as you suggest. Only a question of time.

BBC Interviewee said:
I have always wanted to visit Las Vegas but now it will be on my doorstep

That's like saying "I don't need to support Arsenal now, someone gave me a Spurs season ticket" :D

Lords scupper super-casino plan

Peers have rejected a decision to build the UK's first super-casino in Manchester by just three votes....

Read the whole article though, it's not cut and dried as such.

Like we recently saw in the US, Senators being bought off with campaign funding, over here you can buy a peerage. Well, not on paper, but in reality you can as has been proven. Cash for honours they call it. So watch out for Lord Harrah sometime soon ;)

What surprised me was the size. 1250 slots is kind of medium-sized by California Indian casino standards, and small by Vegas Strip standards.

... what's the millenium dome used for now, anyway? Wig storage?
