The joys of gambling with crypto…

So I made a small deposit just before to have a leisurely Friday arvo of slotting. Then this happened…

The yellow circle shows the point at which I made my deposit. This is fairly typical for me although I tend to be reasonably jammy when it comes to gambling. But on top of taking the gamble of playing at an offshore casino with no real protection (although I’ve never had an issue withdrawing any winnings), you have to deal with the unpredictability of crypto. It’s really a gamble on a gamble on a gamble. Let this be a lesson for those who are considering moving over to the dark side. It’s not all roses and unicorns.

I kinda feel this outweighs the gamble of being SOW’ed by a UKGC joint over trivial amounts (I’ll never send my confidential financial info to an online casino), so it is still worth it to me. I play minimum stakes so I tend to fly under the radar.

I’d love to learn how to deal with a more stable coin such as USDT, but I’m not really sure how to do so without incurring ridiculous fees given the small amounts I deposit (typically the equivalent of USD$60 a deposit). If anyone can offer some advice (excluding not gambling at offshore joints!) I’d appreciate it. And apologies if my post is a ramble but I’ve cracked open a bottle of Beam to enhance my afternoon 😁.

I hear what you are saying, but I also think it works both ways. Some days you can deposit and all of a sudden BTC (or which ever coin you are playing with may have shot up). It is a bit up and down I agree, but in the past 12 months crypto has been a stable as I have ever seen it, mainly with upsides.

Stablecoins, I don't know a great deal about them. I am almost certain you can easily trade your BTC or ETH for USDT on Binance, Kraken, Coinbase etc. I never hold any stablecoins, so I am never looking for them in the casino, are they there much as an option for deposit or withdrawal?

I think you will probably have the same problem when you try and cash in your stablecoins, as you will be at the mercy of whatever value BTC and other coins are at that time.

I'm a holder when it comes to crypto, I don't bother trying to trade it. I have noticed that crypto values very roughly follow the stock market, especially the Dow. At the moment it's quite suppressed after all the Nvidia drops this week, and so are crypto coins. Give it a week or two and they will be back up again.

If Trump gets in they will go bananas!

What conker said. You lose on the swings and make it back on the roundabouts. It goes up as well as down. And offshore still beats crappy UK sites hands down.

Unfortunately you can't beat LTC for fees (to my knowledge). USDT is expensive whatever network you use, and I'm not aware of any other stablecoin that offers low fees. Hmm maybe I should investigate this.

I used to use USDT on the Tron network as that was a few pennies to send, the downside was you had to also have a bit of TRON in your wallet to pay the sending fee. But at the moment it's at least $2 to send money.

To be fair I’d be happy to pay “only” a couple of bucks in fees to have a stable balance, but you a right in terms of the swings.

Anyway I’ve been playing for a couple of hours now and am only down a fiver, including swimming up stream due to LTC retreating. Success in my books when I focus on the entertainment value.

You should stop buying Litecoin IMHO. Of all the coins that have been around for a while, it is the one that has grown the least. I cannot get the appeal of this coin.

I like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and Binance Coin. I really don't touch much else. They have all taken a battering recently, but these appear to be the strongest and tend to grow in the good times.

You should take a look at how all crypto has been trending recently…
