No limit holdem---no limit to the amount of the bet...this is the game you can go all in. Any raises have to be double the blind.
Limit holdem ----- there is a max on the amount you can bet, this is determined by the table. For example if you play at a $2-4 table the blinds will be $1 & $2 .. preflop and after the flop the bet is a max of $2, the turn & river have a max bet of $4. Now after the bet there is a limit of 3 raises. So lets say your are betting $4 on the river, that can be raised 3 times, so if it was raised 3 times you would have 4 $4 bets in front of you, the original bet and the 3 raises of $4 for a total of $16.
The strategies are different.
I mostly play nle,
NLE--- Being able to bet anything is a good tool to have at your disposal when trying to buy a pot or taking advantage of a donk.
Limit-- There are more suckouts in no limit. You will have more people stay especially pre flop and after the flop due to the smaller bet. Now even though you see more suckouts, a good player will prevail over a lengthy period of time. I feel it is a lot easier to label and read people on limit then no limit. There just seem to be a lot more of the same patterns with people on no limit.
