Hi,

Received an email from Neteller advising me that my current ATM card is due to expired in Jan 2009.

Yes it was sent from Neteller and was not a phishing email

If I still wish to have access to funds via an ATM then I should arrange for a new Net+ card. What makes this strange, is my Globe Wallet ATM card does not expired until mid 2010.

Either this is an internal error or worse a manufactured ploy to get people to sign-up to the new Net+ card.

As per usual I'm still waiting to hear back from Neteller.

As a matter of interest anyone else receive an email like this lately?

Cheers

Perhaps what Neteller means is that THEY are "expiring" ALL the Globe Wallet cards in Jan 2009, and are changing EVERYBODY over to the new Net+ card from February.
You may well find your card simply stops working at the end of Jan, even though it has over a year left to run.

You may well find it compulsory to change over to the Net+ card, although, as usual, Neteller FAIL to spell this out clearly enough, which could mean another mess to clear up when a whole load of customers suddenly find their ATM card stops working from 1st February, leaving Neteller little or no time to issue replacements.
Many of these Neteller emails look like phishing, simply because Neteller do NOT follow general advice given out by many sources. For a start, they have NO special security feature that makes it easy to test an email to see if it is genuine. Customers are addressed as "dear customer", even in GENUINE Neteller emails, and they are provided with a link from the email to apply for a new product, register an interest in a promotion, or simply to log into their account. It is no wonder therefore, that most Neteller emails simply end up seen as spam/phishing, yet Neteller seem surprised when customers fail to act, saying "well, we sent an email.........".

This is an incredibly dangerous practice for Neteller to follow, as after a string of emails that turn out to be GENUINE, a customer will likely drop their guard when a REAL PHISHING email comes from "Neteller", assume it genuine yet again, and think this is how Neteller expect things to be done.

I have received MANY emails from Neteller inviting me to "click here and register.......", and so far, ALL have been genuine, even though I am addressed simply as "dear customer".

Perhaps what Neteller fail to realise is that this leaves a legal opening through which they can be sued when accounts are hacked, as it can be shown that "phishing style" emails are the norm for GENUINE contact, and therefore the customer cannot be seen as 100% negligent for falling for a real phishing scam.

Trezz, you should contact Neteller again about YOUR card expiring in mid 2010, and ask SPECIFICALLY whether this card will continue to work until this date, or whether you MUST now apply for Net+ by the end of January irrespective of the status of your Globe Wallet card. If you DO need a new Net+ card, you have little time left if you are not to lose the ability to withdraw via ATM. Neteller may well be swamped with such applications, and it seems odd they have allowed only a month to sort them all out. If this turns out to be the case, Neteller probably will not be able to cope within the time frame, and there will be customers waiting for new cards.

So far, I have only used cheque and bank transfer to get funds from Neteller, and it has only gone spectacularly wrong twice:rolleyes:

The new card looks pretty good, however there is no guarantee it will actually WORK where I want to use it, and I could end up paying the monthly fee for an idle card because I CAN'T use it, not because I am deciding not to use it - there is even a 10 fee to CANCEL the damn thing if it fails to live up to expectations. The only good things are that it does not have to be loaded first, and no fees are charged for transactions, only cash withdrawals from an ATM.

This is strange, Trezz, because I too have just received a similar "Neteller" email, except that I have already converted to Net+ Prepaid and my new card doesn't expire until November 2009.

I reported this to Neteller, but as usual nothing seems to be happening, or perhaps they're all still in holiday mode.

I didn't respond to the email - too many smart fraudsters on the Internet at present, and your report allied to my own experience makes me think this may be one of them.

Okay, yet another version. I received an email on 18 Dec telling me that as my Globewallet card hadnt been activated, it was closed on 18 Dec. They then asked me to consider opening a Net+ card. Well, I did ask them for a globewallet card but it never came and there were no indications on their website that it was approved. Furthermore, I sent my docs for verification and they rejected these giving all sorts of reasons. I wont bother wasting my time to adhere to their wishes.

Hi,

I contacted Neteller via phone being a VIP there too, I at least avoid the long waits.

What I was told is...

My card Globe Wallet card does not expire in Jan 2009. The email was sent as a generic to all customers. It was meant (obviously as word used often at NT) to tell clients who had not provided their updated proof of ID docs that if these are not verified by Jan 2009, that their Globe Wallet ATM card would expire.

However, after that was explained to how the email was supposed to read. The CS then started on the Net+ card spiel. But 1/2 way through that the phone (NT voip?) dropped.

I received a follow up email, from the VIP/Retention agent with more info about the Net+ card.

The most frustrating thing of the above email...I was going to respond to this vip CS and try to get confirmation in writing, that my globe wallet ATM would still be good after Jan 2009. However his email sig showed one email address but when clicked it brought up a totally different person at Neteller.

No wonder things get stuffed up over there all the time.

Cheers

I love it how they said the new card is more efficient, lol but did they mention more costly... well for me anyway it is.
1>The ATM withdrawal has changed from $4 to $6.
2>The foreign exchange rate is 2.95%.... im not sure what the globewallet card is but i didn't think it was that high but maybe im wrong.
3>And to top it off, there is a dormancy fee of $3 if not used in any month.:eek2: I only use the card when i get lucky enough to make a withdrawal at a casino.....and this past year has been pretty dry and im not expecting that to change any time soon.

So all in all, not too sure what i will do when i am no longer able to use the globewallet card.

Dont forget the CANCELLATION fee if you find the new card is no good, 10 UK, so probably double that for $

The ONLY advantages seem to be that it is instant, no need to preload, and no fees are charged for purchases in the same currency as the Neteller account. What worries me is that it might NOT work on many of the websites I use to pay my bills, such as council tax, paying off my credit cards, etc. Neteller have also said it CANNOT be used to make gambling transactions.

It MAY be worth a try, as it will at least provide an emergency exit for my funds should the withdrawal by bank transfer process seize up (I've had this before, waited WEEKS, not days as it should be).

I am curious as to why they are pushing this new card so damn HARD though, this has me thinking there is a catch somewhere, one that makes Neteller far more money than the old card did, making it harder to believe this is really a BETTER option for users.
