Awhile back I started getting swamped with spam - it turns out that one of my clients (trying to be helpful ) posted my name and email address on a bunch of forums for 'someone to contact if you need graphics' Sigh....

So I told him to please see if he could remove them or to talk to the moderators of those forums to see if he could have them removed. He wrote me yesterday and said he was able to do 3 of them but couldn't remember the other one, so I did a google search for me (googled myself :o) and holy crap, what do I find but comments I've made on iNetBet's facebook page.

I'm not sure if it's Facebook or something about my settings or something about theirs, but I don't like it - I mean it's one thing if it's an alias, but it's my real name. Has this happened to anyone else?

If you are posting on fb pages then you are at the mercy of the page owners settings as to what is seen in Google. It sounds to me that iNetbet's page is public and therefore that is why it is coming up when you search your name. If I was you, I would see if I could delete the comment in question and in a few days Google will re-index the page and it should be gone. However, if you have made multiple comments then it may take a bit longer to clear up. The point is you need to remove the comments or ask iNetbet to remove them.

Fear of this sort of thing happening is yet another reason I won't do facebook. I don't want just anyone to have easy access to 'me'. LOL And, let's face it, most poeple like me have no clue as to how to set things up, what to allow and not allow, what to lie about when setting up the page, etc.... and then there's the thing Chayton had of posting on someone's page and THEY allow any tom, dick and harry to see info.

I have given thought lately to setting up a facebook just to see some of the 'specials' and coupons, etc. companies put out there if you 'like' them. But no... I'll just stay off there.... it creeps me out... :o

FB has See-eye-aye connections. :eek2: But seriously, this happens to me a lot: I logged out of EffBee and I go to my Internet provider webpage to check on my other email addresses and I happened to open an email regarding a certain diet plan (HCG diet). I go visit other websites then come back to FB and what do you know....there is an advertisement to the side about the HCG diet plan!!! I have never said anything on FB about this diet plan! The damn FB tracks your Internet activity even AFTER you logged out!! Hell damn that!!

Try it yourself! Log out of FB and go to websites you have not visited in a long while. Go to websites of things you have not seen advertisements of yet on FB. Like go to a Ford or Lexus car dealership website after you log out and go around various other websites and then log back into FB and see if you damn well find that kind of advertisement showing up on your FB page. Perhaps it won't be the next time you log on but I'm sure within a couple of days...whoomp! there it is!! Even though I didn't go to a HCG diet webpage, it still read my EMAIL about it!!! That is damn frickin' creepy!

So be damn very careful about sites you visit after going on FB. I do not know if once on FB and if you haven't cleared your cookies, whether FB follows ALL internet activity even if you haven't logged on that day.

One day I noticed on some of my friends' pages it shows what news articles they're reading in Yahoo news. So one day I went to FB and didn't log out, then went to Yahoo news - and sure enough, there's a thing on the side that's turned ON by default, you have to turn it off if you don't want everyone to know you're reading about naked mole rats.

And as for the ads...my home page does the same thing - Ray gets up earlier than I do and he goes and looks at guitars and other musical instruments and when I get up all my ads are for music. By the time he gets home it's all javascript and online gambling - and naked mole rats. ;)

Although it's still not as bad as what I was reading about Gmail, how they're actually capturing information from what you're typing in your mail to find out what kinds of ads to serve. I found this funny video (funny because I don't use Gmail)

Actually that's what Emily told me too.

The best part is that I don't have any friends there either, so I don't have to read what someone had for dinner, or know what time they went to bed;)
No copydemands:D

Just me that can lurk around trying to figure things out.
I also have to add that I havn't seen a single add on my page on facebook. My brain has closed those things down a long time ago so they don't bother me. Good brain! :D

Hm..is it add or ads?
