soft play

Are you referring to poker?

Example of soft play in poker would be taking it easy against a friend heads up in a pot. Say you have the absolute nuts, but yet don't want to bust your friend. You just check it down.

Most, if not all, tournaments have rules against this, and can lead to severe penalties if/when you're caught. Of course this would really only apply to live games, as it's almost impossible to tell when it happens online.

Just the opposite would be chipdumping...ie: "dumping" off your chips to a friend that's in a better situation to win a tournament than you are.

Maybe they're referring to betting on both red & black at the same time just to clear the WR.
