TY:), may post in WS in a few with a Scary II shot (so not cross posting) but iirc Progressive Jackpot hits usually are mentioned in a thread with speculation so I eliminated that,LOL!......Granted it is not millions but I am thrilled, shocked, you name it and since the Progressives are relatively new at Rivals, I hope Rivals as well as TIV are as thrilled as I:)

In this tumultuous period, nobody believes the banks and they dont believe in each other. In many countires, the Governments have resorted to proividing a blanket insurance for all deposits at banks to prevent capital outflows. In Hong Kong, for example, we use our reserves ie USD180 Billion to insure against default by the banks who currently hold USD 770 Billion in deposits. Nevertheless, most governments will only use this as a temporary measure and the safest place is still treasury bills so the interest rate is currently of little relevance.

Simply said like most I have charities that I chose to support through various means.

I have served on the State Board of multiple charities including Cystic Fibrosis where I was very active as a fundraiser and donor although when I was invited to be a member of that particular Board, I did not know anyone with CF but what a fulfilling 10 to 15 years it would become.:)

I currently serve on the State Board of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation but not as active as I was on the CF board et al but I do provide financial support and I once posted maybe in an attic thread that I do sponsor and send a child with IBD to camp every summer actually located in your State.

The above said, gambling winning and losses, which I have experienced each in larger amounts than my fortunate win last night, have never once in my case determined whether or not I support the charities that I chose to support.

I respect each individuals right to have their own views on charity/charitible giving. Unfortunately, in the late 80's to 91 most developer's/builder's operated in a survival mode and were fortunate if they did (business wise). At this uncertain time, I did not make the kind of charitable contributions that I or in the business case, the family business had made in the past as I was the beancounter. By the same token, iirc from sometime in 88 to maybe 94, I never made a single gambling wager or even considered it. I just felt it was not a priority nor financially responsible with all the uncertainty and I was not broke but I could have been without a littlebit of luck (lol,npi) and burning the midnight oil.

With all due respect Rob I think you skee-dattled a bit too far here.

I mainly support a chairty foundation for my cousin, who has DMD. I donate not only fiscally, but with time and effort as well. I do not like being asked to donate to other charities.

Today I went shopping. Out of curiousity I decided to count how many times I was asked to donate. At one point I got to donate outside a JC Penny, inside a JC Penny, and at the mall entrance to JC Penny - 3 different charities. In total tonight I was asked 17 times, and it got very annoying after awhile.

My family makes a reasonable amount of money. Not alot, but we're not poor. We enjoy a moderate Christmas, though not every single bill gets paid on time. We cannot afford to give to charity at every opportunity, and it is quite depressing to be reminded that other people want your money when you don't have enough of it to begin with.

What about people have clothes and a roof over their head, but who don't get charity? We can't afford to donate to every person. Our government doesn't have a problem bailing out the auto industry or funding private sports stadiums, so I think you should ask them.

We gamble as a form of relaxation, not to knowingly make a profit every time (barring KK. :)). I don't think anyone wants to be reminded - again - that people want their money. I am not trying to be rude, I simply thought I'd point out the other side of the fence, and something I feel very strong about.

Congratulations Nash, it's truely an incredible win and I hope it filled your heart with joy this holiday season.

We all have our different opinions but during this festive season it is heartening to see that Rob continues to think of the less well-off especially during the economic crisis which is by far the worst to date.

I agree that one should not be told where to spend/donate his/her money but then with such a huge win and amid some excitement the winner may well want to spread the joy. No hard feelings but I am sure that Rob meant well in caring for the less priveleged.

Exactly Chu, I think Casinokidd maybe mistook my suggestion there and that's all it was as I clearly stated "And if you have not already thought about a charity,"...the key word being "thought", and I already kinda figured Nash to be a charity giver anyway but CM has some good one's listed here that Nash or others may have not been aware of and I just simply wanted to point them out...:)

Personally, I believe one that is as well off as all of us peeps are here, and lets all admit it that we are, or otherwise we all would not have all of this discretionary income to be able to gamble with in the first place...I believe to truly feel you have really given, it has to hurt in a good sense...enough for the dollar amount to feel relative if you all know what I mean...:)

you were NOT out of line. i'm sure nash didnt take it that way either. i pester all of my friends to give. they can all afford it. if they dont like being "bothered" f*ck them. let them go a day without and see how they like it. having more than most comes with a certain amount of responsibility. like it or not. i also remember my parents giving plenty and not only during the hoilidays. when i was growing up we had much less than most but my folks still found a way to give. you dont have to be wealthy to give. i'm a little shocked at casinokidd's post. if you felt annoyed, while you were out shopping, i say too bad. deal with it. supposed to feel a little annoyed and guilty this time of year? you bet. there are not enough people who do good on their own. they need a little poke from time to time. get them off their a*s or high horses. is it my job? i dont really care. i'll do it till i drop. the other people who are out their lobbying are not out there for themseves. give them a break.

My folks were the same way and also raised my sister and I to do the same...my old man, god bless his soul would have gave the shirt off his back whether he was asked or not, that's just the way he was and still is...he would also give his last dollar if he though it would help.
