Question about 3Dice - Starstruck slot

Hi Gang,

I was just playing Starstruck at 3Dice and wondering about the laws around using actual film clips in a slot. (Perhaps also about using the likenesses of real people - as with the Payola slot).

When MG produces a movie tie-in slot for example, some kind of notice seems to usually be there saying "New Line Cinema - all right reserved" or something like that.

Are these slots all officially licensed, and if so, does this affect the payout? I think I remember reading that movie/game tie-in slots have a lower payout percentage because they have to recoup the cost of the licensing fees.

Thanks,

I may be wrong but some of the film clips used are that old they might not be covered by copyright. I think the copyright on movies is around 70 years.

I am not so familiar with 3Dice, but just to add something about licensed games in general.

Large and reputable suppliers like Microgaming and Net Entertainment do have (officially) licensed games.

Licensed games that are part of Microgaming`s portfolio:

-Lord of the Rings™ (Warner Bros & New Line Cinema)
-Lara Croft - Tomb Raider (Eidos)
-Lara Croft - Tomb Raider II (Square Enix)
-Hellboy™ (Dark Horse Comics)
-Hitman (Eidos)
-The Osbournes (Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne)

Net Entertainment inked a deal with Universal in 2010 giving them the right to create some games based on at least two well known movie themes, Frankenstein and Scarface. Frankenstein was released last year and the theoretical payout percentage for that game is 96,6.
