Profits Long Term On Online Slots

I have always enjoyed a gamble playing poker online and Betfair inplay sports trading, but I had stayed away from online Casino's as I had always gone too daft on pub fruit machine's...

But last week I decided to have a go and deposited £200 on 32Red, sure enough I started to enjoy the slots...had a few wins but then went down a bit, then got a nice £70 win on the Terminator 2 slot, but suddenly I could not hit a thing even playing 50p spins I lost £100 then went daft on some scratch cards (doh!)...down to my last £40 and went on The Dark Knight slot, won about £200 on one spin! which was nice...but then the same happened again no wins at all and didnt get saved this time when low in funds..

What I want to know from long term players, should I get the hell out now...or are there profits to be made at the online slots with game selection and decent bankroll management? Thanks in advance...

Game selection is important I think. It sometimes seems to me that people jump into playing high variance slots because they want big hits without really grasping how big you can actually hit on medium variance games (relative to low variance games like cartoon blackjack etc)

I play pretty much exclusively medium variance slots which lets me get a feel for how hot they are running without being too vulnerable to the 'drop off a cliff' experience of running dead on a HV slot.

I'd say the most important thing (by miles) is having the discipline to get out if a slot is in suck mode.
If there's a 'skill' to playing these things then that is probably it

Probably the best thing to do is to recognise when to walk away when up, but also more importantly, when down. It's far easier to walk away when winning than it is when losing though. Then again the house always has it's edge.

Depends on what you are looking for and what you mean by "profit". Casinos have an advantage in the long run, yet in a shorter period, such as on any given day you can enjoy a nice win.

For me, I gamble expecting that I will lose my entire deposit, enjoying the uncommon but possible prospect of making a profit instead. That's where the entertainment is. And you DO need to win and cash out occasionally, or else the thrill dies - a casino with a low RTP is one that is not going to be very popular. In other words, give me two casinos, one with an overall RTP of 97% and another casino with an RTP of 84% (just as examples), and I'll play at the 97% casino every time. (Unless I get bored, or unless the 97% casino is giving me an unlucky streak.)

If it is a reputable certified casino with a major software the slots won't "care" about your past play.
If it is crooked casino with rigged games they will (surprise!) take all your money quickly regardless of how you play.

There is no way to make a long term profit by playing slots.

The best advice is of course never to play them in the first place, but most of us play them for fun and we realize that it's not a way to make money, its just entertainment.

It is however possible to be ahead for months or even years but unless you stop while ahead the casino will get your money in the end.

Completely agree with Blathaon, there is no profit to be made from long term slot playing. Except in very rare occasions when a progressive jackpot is won and you would have to be seriously seriously lucky to win one (the type of luck that you would need to win the lottery)

As another poster said, I play them for fun more than anything. Been playing them for many years and effectively in the majority of cases I know that what I will be losing what I deposit.. it's good to be realistic . Had a couple of occasions where I've pulled out a couple of hundred quid which does keep it interesting however I know in the long term that amount will be going back in...
