When I was younger, I was quite religious - very scared of Ouija boards and stepping on cracks and nonsense like that.

I'm not religious anymore. I'm not sure if it's the priestly pedophilia stuff that went on unchecked for likely centuries, or my education, or exposure to different kinds of people, but definitely not religious.

On the other hand, I do sometimes wonder things like how can something that lives and breathes and thinks - just one day STOP/die? Doesn't there have to be an independent force of some kind working within the bags of meat we call bodies? That's a question I don't think we'll ever have a good answer for.

What I know about science doesn't leave much room for a god. In fact it makes a god unnecessary and highly unlikely. I wouldn't suggest any person let their lives revolve around an idea that has an almost infinitesimal chance of being true. It's like a gambler betting the rent on a game that's almost impossible to win. For the most part most of us are gamblers here to some extent so we know all about playing the odds. Religion is a game where the odds of winning are so slim it's basically pointless.

Time and time again science has shown that almost everything that's ever been attributed to the existence of a god happens on a fairly regular basis with relatively simple explanations. The idea that the Earth was created for humans to live on by an intelligent being is ludicrous since most of the planet itself is so inhospitable to human life that the entire history of our species is racked with starvation, disease and death by geological and climactic upheaval. It took about 4 and a half billion years just for us to show up on this planet. In fact, if the history of the earth was as long as your arm the history of humans would barely be visible at the end of your fingernail. You could remove it with one gentle swipe with a nail file. By the time we got here the sun that almost all life on this planet relies upon completely was already halfway through it's life cycle. A sun that sits in an unassuming corner of a galaxy that just happens to be on a collision course with another galaxy in a universe that's expanding at an ever increasing rate and will eventually expand so far and so fast that light from one star will never be able to reach another and when those stars burn out the entire universe will be an unimaginably cold sea of endless darkness. That doesn't sound like a very intelligent design.

Now if you take the fact that any god is so unlikely and divide that by the amount of different religions that humans have followed and the number of gods that humans have worshipped you end up taking a blind shot in the dark that you're following the one right religion that worships the god that had almost no chance of existing in the first place. I've said many times that I don't debate religion with my friends because people get angry and feelings get hurt and the only reason I'm pointing out a tiny fraction of the reasons I don't accept a creator is because even if by some impossible chance a god does exist against all odds and all logic there would still be absolutely no reason to believe in anything even remotely resembling a Satan. A supernatural evil entity that entices or even forces us to do harmful and hateful things that a god who created the entire universe and everything in it has either no desire or no means to remove from existence so the human species that it created can live a peaceful, uninterrupted life. You can say God works in mysterious ways but logic is usually quite simple and usually quite basic and a god that created everything who is a force for good would not condone or permit the existence of an entity who's sole purpose is to provoke acts of evil. Satan does not walk among us. Satan does not influence us. I do not believe in any god and that leaves me wide open for Satan to stroll right in yet I do not commit murder. I do not steal or commit adultery. I live a quite, honest life. I help people when I'm able, I forgive people for their faults and I accept people in spite of their differences. I don't believe in Satan so Satan has no say.

People are quite welcome to believe whatever they like but my advice to anyone who looks for a supernatural cause is to first look for a natural one. You will probably find that the answer is quite logical and doesn't require any amount faith to understand.
