I had an a/c with a casino which I asked to be closed about 8 months ago.

I recently opened an account with another casino, which it turns out is owned by the same group. Can they refuse to pay out my winnings on the grounds that I 'self excluded' (their words) myself from their sister company? Their reasoning is I used the words 'permanently closed' in my request which means I must have a gaming problem. I seem to recall when I called up to close my a/c, they asked if my closure was temporary or permanent and to put it in writing. The only reason I closed it was because I didn't like the site.

If you said "gambling problem" and made the closure permanent, you should not have got past registration (provided you used the same details). If you gave the reason "didn't like site", then you will probably not like the sister casino either.

Do NOT play until you have cleared things up. If you have deposited, some sites will send back the deposit and close the account under "responsible gambling" rules.

i never said 'gambling problem' or 'self exclusion'. I did ask to close the a/c permanently as a result of my phone call to them. I used the same email address to register with the new site and obviously my date of birth hasn't changed!! I don't suppose if I had lost they would have said a word. I am still hoping they will pay out my winnings as it says in their t&c you need to specifically request 'self exclusion' and still I do not believe I did that.

Please make sure you get your money! If they were concerned with you having a problem, they would of permanently closed and blocked your acct(s)! They didn't bring up the fact that you so called "self excluded" when you deposited your money!! Don't let them scam you!

How about saying:

I closed my previous account at (blank) because I wasn't enjoying myself. I did not know that this casino was associated with (blank). However, I am entitled to my deposit and winnings. For you to withhold winnings would be fraud on your part as I achieved these winnings honestly.

Or something along that line. Throw in some words like you humbly apologize or other crap and see if that flies.

I don't see how they can legitimately not pay you but casinos make up their own rules.
