Don't waste your time. We only stayed two nights and we were all comp'd in a mini suite and all the meals including a good steak dinner in the Chicago Steak House, which was the highlight of the trip. Nobody dressed up for the $100+ meal. They gave me $200 freeplay, which was nice.
I wanted to leave the next day but we were too tired after the long drive and the disaster we had checking in when they tried to put us in a smoking suite when we were supposed to get a non smoking suite. Thankfully we had a good VIP host who took care of it for us but it took over an hour to find us the correct room, and we never did get our refrigerator!
The casino is tight although several people (not including me) hit pretty big at the high limit slots. Most of the folks gambling there all seemed really low class except for the fellows playing in the poker tournament, the people playing in the high limit and VIP area, and some other middle aged couples like us. Lots of local folks from Memphis. Almost everyone smoked, so it was hard to avoid. Small indoor pool. Buffet not up to par. Elevators S L O W and we were on one of the top floors so it was frustrating. We won't ever go back unless we need a free night in the area on our way to somewhere else.
Although we could fly, we choose to drive and it is the same amount of time for us to drive to Biloxi as it is to drive to Tunica, but an easier drive to Biloxi. Headed back to the Beau Rivage in a couple of weeks for a slot tournament, thank goodness. On a scale of one to ten the Gold Strike is a 2 and the Beau is a 10! The Beau is a nice resort, the Gold Strike just a hotel with a casino.

And how did you come to that Epiphany? Were they spitting tobacco juice on the floor, were the lady's' boobs hanging out? Did they show butt crack every time they leaned over the table or the slot machine? Were they dribbling beer out the side of their mouths as they drank or belching loudly after each chug? What was the dead giveaway? :p

I hear and understand you about the smoking. It is awful to go somewhere and not be able to enjoy yourself because of that. If they ever ban smoking, I can pretty much guarantee it would be the kiss of death for that establishment though. Gambling, drinking and smoking for some odd reason seem to be intertwined.

Well as someone who has played and stayed at Gold Strike many a time, its one of my favorites. We never had any problems with the elevators , i always thought them to be extremly fast.

I wouldnt judge a book by its cover (low class players) ?

How do you define a low class player btw? This really has me interested as when we go i dress for comfort , thats why im there, to relax, spend some money and maybe leave with more than i came with.

Most of the ones you might call low class are the ones with the big bucks, they are there to gamble, not to take in a opera:rolleyes:

Can not say I didn't warn you?

"It's not even close to being like The Rivage!!"

"Still asking myself how I spent 21 days in July in Tunica. I guess trying to find my ass which is still missing, lol. If anyone locates it, please kick it...... Your best bets in Tunica are Harrah's Horseshoe and MGM's Goldstrike although the crowds and riff raff are unbearable at times.(I did checkout Sam's for the first time for a few hours and the employees were nice but I have no desire to go back)......Tunica's casinos are really just gambling joints and convenient for those within reasonable traveling distances. I would never recommend Tunica as a vacation destination for those who are not within a reasonable traveling distance unless a trip to Graceland tickles your fancy as it is within about 45 minutes.,,,,Really not much to do in Tunica(although they try with some decent entertainment like Meatloaf this past w-e,one decent golf course and a few decent restaurants but that is about it other than I like to chase cocktail waitresses for exercise,)............a few days is probably enjoyable for most and I probably should be involuntarily committed for just having said the above then actually somehow spending 21 days straight in the cottonfields of Tunica,"

It was me, I forgot to put on my dress shoes with my jeans and t-shirt, I was spotted playing the penny slots in my house slippers, my appologies, they are very worn and did make me look low class.

@Nash, you did pretty well at Gold Strike and got a comp room there even tho' you had that nice suite at HS when we(Jim and I) were down there for your High Stakes BJ Tourny? I cant remember if you were chasing skirts or if they were chasing you:cool:

I have to admit, that was a great time watching you play BJ in the VIP area, the man can play peeps, no doubt about it.

Gonna try to see if i can dig that post up that has the pics of your suite.

Jod, a woman of great words..you painted a picture that showed she had to have seen me and my hubby...sounds like us when we go to play...you know, the pink fluffy bunny slippers, squishy purple sponge rollers in the hair...hubby forgetting to pull up his pants type thing..yea, it was us, Mavin (trying to take the credit again!)...unless you were down the isle from us? Was that you in that t-shirt with "Kiss My (B)aaass" on it?? :what:

Would love to see it if you can find it!

Now to business..Darem1, I have never been that way (area) to gamble but would have loved to get a chance...my goal is to hit a lot of the casinos before I die (what a goal huh?) lmao to see how they are....in regards to the food, shows, style of place, sparklies, chandeliers as in just the decor..You gave me a great insight in your monologue..I visualized it well..thank you!

I have hit all the casinos in the Carribean including Paradies Island..that wasn't as great as I thought it would be...then we went around the islands by bus and boat bus making stops at each casino...was fun...Been to Vegas before the boom...itching to go again..I would love to ride the Riverboats wherever they are..(haven't done that yet)...and a few more stops on my list of visits to have...:D.

This was a contest from a few years ago that Nash put up the money for, if i remember Chu and Jetset won 200.00 each and i think Mousey won something from Nash as well.

The pics are on pages 3 and 4, i dont know who that sleepy, tired ass broad is:D

The suite had several rooms, the Bath area was extremly nice as well as the whole suite and if i remember thay had some really beautiful baskets, exotic candies and such sitting around.

It was truely elegant and the pics did not do it justice:)

I had forget just how much fun that weekend was.

Mavin1 Yes Silc, that was me, heehee......, I'm so embarrassed now, but did you like my Bass t-shirt?
Actually I thought it was saying *ss until I saw the faded out B ....You know..like Kiss My *ass instead of B*ass

Wow, I wish we had casinos that would give us free stays, meals and gambling money.
Here we have ONE casino which is run by the swedish state and they do not give anything for free. and smoke, without any
Also, if u are not dressed up you will have a problem getting in. Also, when it comes to the smoking part, in sweden it has become forbidden to smoke in bars ans such, so they have installed small rooms for people to go into. The rooms are tiny and u are not allowed to drink or gamble in there.
In the beginning there were alot of protests, but now I actually think that all people, smokers and non smokers prefer it this way =)

Well no wonder people keep flipping me off, guess they don't see the faded B and the Bass fish picture :D. Guess I should retire it?

Below is a picture of our only casino, Apache Gold, unless we drive to the valley. Love the statue.

Darem1's post does not shock me and regardless if it may not be p.c. in some opines, it is accurate. (Yes, maybe there was a better way to be p.c. or classier but it is what it is*).

I'm sure Darem1's negative comments and experiences were based on one's personal expectations prior to her visit. This property particularily is somehow still marketed and still receives reviews to be an above average property. Yes, all is relative but I (and I am sure others that have experienced GS over the years) can understand her negative review and recent disappointing experience.

*Everyone on this forum respects and considers Mousey to be a fair and balanced poster, imo. Over the past few years, her posts on GS and Tunny lean to the negative rather than positive also, imo!!

I understood what she was meaning although she didn't state it well, but it simply left a bit of room to have some fun with the statement, so no offence on either part. However it would have been better to say riff raff, or something like that.

I feel extremely fortunate living in a small minning town to not have a hoard of riff raff running amuck here. It is a community of low, middle and high class peoples, speaking monetarily. At our local casino which is on the Apache land, we have a nice mix of all types, no riff raff, that are there to make a scene, disrupt things or make people feel the experience to be uncomfortable in a place that is designed for enjoyment.

So although I had to poke some fun, I understood that when you go to a place for enjoyment, it is a shame to have your time there ruined by elements that are there for other reasons, not just everyday people.

Very nicely put. You know, it isn't Las Vegas (or what we perceive of Las Vegas) however it depends personally (IMO) on what you want to do for an evening of entertainment. One night I may want to dress up and the next wear my jeans and just gamble being comfy. Of all the casinos we have been to there have only been a couple where the clientele were a little iffy and it happened to be in downtown Las Vegas. Tunica is Tunica...you go, make your own fun with what is available and hopefully have a good time

I was just having a bit of fun, Nash! I have never been politically correct in my entire life!!

I am also one of the torn jeans and t shirt kinda gals. :p

Riff Raff, Mavin??? I will remember that, Woman!!! ;)

Yes Jod, riff raff, that is condensing your very good but lengthy definition of riff raff, lol and I really hate to go to the casino and see plumbers butts! Gag!!!!
Speaking of plumbers butt, my neighbor loves to show his off, especially in the summer, we get to see it everyday! Yay!

IMO it will be a loooooong time before Mississippi bans smoking in their casinos. I would think it would only happen if there was a federal ban which one could argue would be violate the 10th amendment.

You do not have permission to view link Log in or register now.

The St. Louis Federal Reserve puts it pretty clearly here what happens when states ban smoking in casinos. At the very least casinos need to set aside a portion of their gaming for non smokers. 1/3-1/2 of gaming areas would seem fair and make everyone happy.

OK, I have been duly chastined!

Didn't mean to pi$$ anyone off. Was mad as hell when I wrote my comments because I feel like I wasted time and money which are both hard to come by these days and ended up with a bad experience. Let's just say the crowd isn't the same there as at other places I have gone and leave it at that.

sorry i didnt see your post a long time ago, i would have saved you the trip. Now the trip to tunica is worth it if you didnt stay in the gold strike. Maybe take the free room and go elsewhere like the horshoe or grand. I prefer the grand but since harrahs took over they have gone downhill. The grand in tunica and biloxi used to be the best before harrahs takeover.

Darem,

I was just having some fun, sorry if it was at your expense! NOT!!!

Oh crap, sorry again!!! :p
