A billion is a difficult number to comprehend,

but one advertising agency did a good job of

putting that figure into some perspective in

one of its releases.

A. A billion seconds ago it was 1972.

B. A billion minutes ago was the year A.D. 102.

C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were

living in the Old Stone Age.

D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.

E. A billion dollars ago was only 4 hours and

10 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it.

While this thought is still fresh in our brain, let's take a look at New Orleans It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division

Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D), is presently asking the Congress for $250 BILLION to rebuild New Orleans . Interesting number, what does it mean?

A. Well, if you are one of 484,674 residents of

New Orleans

(every man, woman, child), you

each get $516,528.

B. Or, if you have one of the 188,251 homes in

New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787.

C. Or, if you are a family of four, your family

gets $2,066,012.

Washington , D.C . HELLO!!! ... Are all your calculators broken?? :what:

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago,

and our nation was the most prosperous in the world.

We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

What happened? Can you spell 'politicians!'

And I still have to 'press

1' for English.

What the heck happened?????

This was an email that I received this evening from a very good friend of mine....makes you think, but it really made me mad the more I did think about it...

Anytime I receive an email with some outlandish claims, I check it out on Snopes.com because I've learned to be a little suspicious of outlandish claims. I just had to check that one out........hope you don't mind. :)
The email quoted above is not completely accurate per Snopes.

I would post the contents of the above page but there is a statement at the bottom that says this material may not be reproduced without permission., so I thought better of it.

Thanks bb28 for the useful website, I corrected items A, B & C dealing with Billions. Item D was close enough not to matter anyway. Item E was also updated to shorten the time frame.

In the second part dealing with the monetary allocations they were all less that $2,772.00 in difference at the greatest amount from the original post so I didn't bother to change them either. Once you start talking about that amount of money a couple thousand plus or minus is not going to mean a hill of beans anyway !

Actually not far enough off base to be outlandish...no offense intended.

bb, that snopes site is purdy useful, I've been checking all kinds of stuff since you turned me on to it. I hadn't never heard of it before now, thanks again...

Another favorite ingredient of coca cola was cocaine. Albeit, low levels, but it quickly became popular. Their secret ingredient eventually got banned in the US. I will post the video when I can find it.

Interesting Article link on Hurricane Katrina claims

Headline of article........"Katrina Victims Swamp Corps With Trillions In Claims"

I came across this article this morning. Since it fit with the original post I thought I'd post the link here.
