I tried to watch it, but couldn't handle it. I don't watch movies like I use to and I didn't recognize a lot of the presenters or actors. The ones I did know, I knew for the wrong reasons, like from cop reports, front page news stories, and gossip.
When they brought out old Kirk, I just really couldn't handle it. It made me feel too Damn sad and too Damn old.

When they brought out old Kirk, I just really couldn't handle it. It made me feel too Damn sad and too Damn old.
I actually liked the Oscars this year, I thought Anne Hattaway did a good job. I did not like the choice for cohost however I felt that they could have paired Anne Hattaway with a performer who was a little raunchier which would have been a better balance. I saw the after Oscar show that Jimmy Kimmel did and thought that he would have been great as a cohost. He would have been a great yang to her ying!
When I saw Kirk Douglas walk my heart almost broke seing him so frail and I prayed that he would be okay through the presentation. He seemed very fragile but did a good job. I held my breath for every second that he was on stage praying he would get through his part and he really did so and then some.
I thought this year that many winners and presenters showed more humility then they had in previous years. The only winners I didn't agree with were for the movie Inception since IMHO I thought this movie wasn't ground breaking, I thought it was rather ordinary. Overall I have to say I enjoyed Oscars for the first time in years
Have to agree on Kirk Douglas - I'm old enough to have seen him in his prime, and in his shoes that's how I would prefer to be remembered. I, too found myself on-edge as he did his thing, and felt kinda sad to see how much he has physically changed in his old age. Perhaps a reminder of our own ultimate mortality?
I like Ann Hathaway's bubbly enthusiasm, 'have a go' attitude and big smile, but thought her co-host was wooden and perhaps even a little arrogant. I guess it was a combination they had to try in going for the younger demographic, but I didn't think it was as polished, entertaining and clever as, say, the Billy Crystal performances of yesteryear.
Talking of yesteryear I enjoyed that really old flashback to the days when Bob Hope did the hosting - his throwaway lines were hilarious (The Oscars are known in my home as passover!) LOL.
I always marvel at how year after year so many of the winners make the same cringeworthy mistakes of taking up too much time (especially when there are two or more of them up there simultaneously); reeling off a long list of names so rapidly that it is meaningless unless you're in the business; and just being a little too O/T - I guess the occasion just overwhelms them.
I prefer the more considered, brief, generous and elegant acceptance speeches - after all, once you're a nominee I would assume that you might give some thought to what the hell you were going to say if you won, within the time limit and in an entertaining manner.
And maybe as a nominee you have had enough time to think about your reaction, so as to avoid the "who me? Really, me?" reaction to the announcement of the winner.
About one in ten achieve that cool professionalism imo.
Acceptance speeches I liked - some from the past, include Tom Hanks and Helen Mirren, and although a little halting, I though Colin Firth did a workmanlike job of it this time around. For sure, I want to go and see "The King's Speech."
There were some great films made this year, with some very accomplished performances in acting, filming and technology....but man that Oscar ceremony is a looooong haul!
Interesting footnote: Anne Hathaway (1555/56 – 6 August 1623) was the wife of William Shakespeare. They were married in 1582. She outlived her husband by seven years.
