After my post above I played on and FINALLY after about 500 rounds I got the free-spins... and they were CRAP.
I didn't get 1 single wild on reel 2 or 4.

But I pushed on regardless, eventually got free-spins again... and they were CRAP; I didn't get 1 single wild on reel 2 or 4...

Carried on again (MUST be better next time!), got the free-spns... and they were... a little bit better! Got a wild on reel 2 and another on reel 4 - but my final pay-out was still less than bet x20.

For me - this slot is another damp squib like Wild Rockets; takes AGES to get the free-spins, and when you do they're rubbish.
Though I have to say the "base game" is MUCH better than Rockets. So much so that IMO this game would have been better without the free-spin feature at all! At least then players wouldn't have the frustration off playing 100s of spins only to get a very disappointing feature.

Disclaimer: Above opinion based on only about 1000 rounds and 3 lots of free-spins - I could have just been incredibly unlucky... ?

I tried this Slot last week.

I started with about $460 flat betting $1.20 a spin. I had several hits over 50x bet (ONLY in the Base game). The hits came after going down $200 - $300 - It was an up and down roller coaster ride but NEVER getting anywhere near my initial start balance.

Free spins are friggin' hard to trigger. I had about 6-7 Free Spin Triggers in probably 1500 + spins. My highest win was $88 and the lowest was $5.40. Most of the hits were less than 20x bet.

This comes down once again to 'variance' being seen by software providers/casinos as somehow trivial, uninteresting, or secret information - when in actual fact it's the single biggest factor in the short term that will determine a player's experience on any given slot.

If Lucky Angler is indeed a true high variance slot, why don't NetEnt just bloody tell us? We all know the kind of kicking that the likes of Dead or Alive and Reel Steal can mete out, so if Lucky Angler is capable of the same, it'd be nice if players were given some kind of information about that upfront, especially since NetEnt generally release low to medium variance slots, and the high variance stuff is quite rare for them.

I'm not saying this as a bitter loser by the way, I haven't played Lucky Angler in real money mode yet, but I do have a right bee in my bonnet about this subject, in fact I think the next video due up on the channel has me tediously ranting on about it a bit

The only software that I've seen telling exactly the variance of a slot is RTG (and I don't think it's all the RTG's but I could be wrong). I remember in the preview slot thing before downloading individual slots it would tell the variance (low, med-low, medium, med-high, high and even "very high"). I liked it.

Of course, having a very high variance slot when the wins are capped is quite dumb, but that's another story.
