Thought your vote and support for Obama would leave the online gaming laws alone did you?....lol well Obama's General Atty Eric Holder just stated, he will pass laws to end any cash in to on line casinos!

and your point is? The election wasn't over online gambling alone....if you missed it, unemployment here is at an all-time high, and I could go on and on about many other more important issues...but I won't...

moral of the story: if anyone voted for Obama on the sole reason that he might be in favor of online gambling, then ....figure it out.

While I didn't vote for Obama, whether he was for online gambling wouldn't have influenced me one way or another.

We, here in the US, are either going to have to put up or shut up. Either we, as citizens, make our views known and really get vocal or we shut up and go along for the ride.

And where there is a will, there's a way. So I figure we will find a way. :D

an not all Floridians think this way:rolleyes:

and besides, the banks already made their stance at trying to block transactions related to online gambling (to dumb it down, actually trying to enforce the UIGEA "regulations")- They can't do it!

So what makes this guy think he can change this around?

Sorry, I didn't mean to get anyone upset. I posted this because whenever I used to post my republican views in here during the election, a few used to post articles or posts that if you vote for the Republican ticket they will take on line gaming away but Democrats wont and now we see this is not the case.

Wel, I hope the DB knows he has no capacity to pass laws..He only enforces them!!!

I'm not upset....:)

After endless years of BS, I just wish everyone could throw this "party" !@## out the window and actually work together for a change. Democrat, Republican, Independent...it really doesn't matter.....

IMO, why fight it? You can't please everyone, and all the people in power need to realize this and quit fighting each other on what they "think" is best, and do what's best for not only America, but its citizens as well.

Our founding fathers would be appalled at the shape our country is in today.

FWIW AS WHO KNOWS WHAT LIES AHEAD!!

Last week (1-7-09), I received a PM from a mod. after he had seen/read a story about the B&M's in Vegas coming online and for whatever reason the mod inquired if I had any knowledge of this possibility. In fact, during our correspondence, it became apparent that we had seen/read the same exact story/article. The link is below.

Also below, are excerpts from my responses to the mod's original PM, fwiw (which may be zilch as I am dormant):

"In fact , I was going to post it as Robwin had mentioned in a several month old thread that this may help the status of the poor financial condition of the Las Vegas Big 3 or 4. At that time, I countered that these companies did not have the capital to commence new operations so I did not see it happening.

Also, the tone in that several month old thread suggests by going online that the financial impact would be significant for the LV-Big 3 or 4. I posted to the contrary.

Thus, Robwin foreshadows and nails the first part of the article with the fact that it is being seriously considered and I nail the final part of the article when iirc the Harrah's executive admits that the financial impact would be minimal even in the best of times.

I also found the timing of the article strange considering that Barney Frank among other's had just finally admitted that Regulation (with Madoff and the SEC being the final straw) does not work period. If the banking and securities industries can not be properly regulated, then what can as I remember posting in a thread in March 2008................................................................................................................................................................................................................
fraud (white collar crime) has become a four letter word (maybe surpassing terrorism as the FBI is shifting personnel to fraud investigations from terrorism) in the US and could have a devasting effect on online gaming in the US.

Not sure why this forum has not picked up on the Madoff scam and how it could affect online gaming or actually politically already has. Without expanding, currently Frank, Wexler, and possibly Cohen will have a hard time moving forward on any type of call for serious regualation. Of course, there will be a new faux pas eventually."
............................................

"My bad on the iirc's as it was KLAS-TV in Vegas and David Schwartz from UNLV (not an Harrah's exec.) that mentions the financial impact per se......I had actually saved in my favorites but here is the link I cut and paste from Google:

Peace!

This country is going down the tubes like shit through a goose and he made that a priority?

A lot of things need to be addressed first, and if the new administration has this on their to do first list then I guess what my grandpa said is true

" When times are tough people will turn to drinking and gambling"

Well, times are tough so lets get prohibition back. It worked well the first time.

When will the US govt. ever learn not to repeat its mistakes?

The ones in Washington, that we the people, voted and put in office, plus all the major company C.E.O's and all the way down to the crooked Investment Brokers have gambled with our countries future, most have gone bust. Its just not spinning a slot that defines gambling, these folks are gambling or have gambled with millions of peoples lives, lets hope they are not taking to drinking also or we will be futher down that shit creek on a sinking boat, WITH NO ONE TO BAIL U.S OUT!!!!!!! .............laurie

So what makes this guy think he can change this around?

Apart from the practical difficulties of policing and enforcing the UIGEA - which the politicians have been repeatedly briefed on but seem determined to ignore - there are other issues in play here.

If the UIGEA regulations are not negated by the application of the Midnight Rule Act by the incoming Obama administration (and this seems unlikely as there are plenty of other egregious Bush regulations that will hold priority) then the UIGEA regs come into force in a few day's time on January 19th.

However, as I read it the financial institutions have until December 1st 2009 to get their enforcement act together.

Given the slew of way more critical financial issues the US banking industry is trying to deal with at present, I imagine there will not be too much commitment to the UIGEA enforcement right up until the Dec 2009 deadline.

An interesting development here has been the Obama "suggestions" website at Link Removed ( Old/Invalid) , where a huge number of voters have positioned the legalisation of online poker and the rejection of the UIGEA as the second most important area for Obama's consideration - right behind bullet trains! (see latest Casinomeister News).

LOL... from what I have been seeing in the Stock Market the only US Banks that are going to be left standing after December 09 are the two Banks that bothered to stand up and tell the government that the UGIEA was unworkable.

BTW - I have searched all over for any reference to Eric Holder saying he was going to stop all online casinos cash ins (payouts or whatever), but have not been able to find anything at all.

I would really like to see the context in which this was said.

Several online gaming sites speculate that Holder may not be good for online gambling and all are somewhat consistent as to reason (but like Lotso, I found no direct quote, fwiw).

Jet you may recognize some of the following:

".......Although well qualified professionally for the post, Holder's past associations with lobbyists for the powerful and vehemently anti-online gambling National Football League, and service in a Department of Justice which has proved to be strongly opposed to Internet gambling, are not encouraging indicators.

Holder was Deputy Attorney General to Janet Reno, and moved on from that post to join Washington lobbyist law firm Covington and Burling, which was recently in the news when it was revealed that its former lobbyist, William Wichterman, had been a key driver in pushing the UIGEA regulations through in a 'midnight drop' operation (see previous InfoPowa reports). Wichterman had worked on the NFL account for the company during his employment there, raising questions of a conflict of interest which were brushed aside by the Bush White House.

Like Wichterman, the National Football League was one of the accounts on which Holder worked during his tenure at Covington and Burling......."

Some of the speculation, very similar to the above is pre-Madoff which changed both the political and federal regulatory mindset drastically. (There is not a direct correlation to online gaming but there may be an indirect. Yet who knows how long this faux pas will last.) A link to an interesting read just fyi!! Only posting a quote that is siggy material:eek:

Who is responsible for protecting the securities investor, because I want to tell that person that they suck at it, said Representative Gary Ackerman, a New York Democrat."

Peace!

Yes, I'm familiar with the piece ;), but I would nevertheless like to see any straight-from-the-horse's mouth statement that Holder might have made recently.

you know im reading all this stuff about our president and the gambling situation and we dont know exactly what will be . but being that i live in houston, tx and on the news the other day i heard that galveston is in such bad shape because of hurricane ike that we are possibly trying to legalize gambling in galveston to get us out of debt. so many repairs are needed. and yes they are getting smart realising that all us texans are going one state over to louisiana and giving them all our money and louisiana can fund therer highways and make a killing because of gambling. now if it becomes legal in texas just think of all the money we can keep here in our state . i sat yes and so does a lot of other houstonians. and im sure matress mac will go for it as he tried to open a casino downtown in one of the old buildings and of course you know what happened.

Unfortunately what happened in my opinion was that the people in power in the US kept ignoring the US Constitution.

One of the many things the people in power ignored in the Constitution was the little bit about the separation of Church and State.

When you allow federal law makers to impose their moral and religious beliefs on everyone in a very very diverse country, there are going to be problems, a lot of them. Our founding fathers knew this, thus the First Amendment to the Constitution.

The 'Moral' enforcement laws that the US federal government are currently enforcing have cost the tax paying US Citizens Trillions of $$. They have bloated our Prisons to the breaking point. The USA locks up more of it's own citizens than ALL the other G8 countries combined. Percentage wise, the US locks more people than China and Russia combined... Over 3/4 of the US Prison populations only crimes were, crimes against these 'moral' enforcement laws.

The REAL crime here is what we have allowed our government to do.
