New crackdown on gambling ads...

If you set your Youtube account to "age restricted" it prevents the videos them being found if not logged in. An account has to be created and the user has to confirm they are over 18 years of age before they can view the videos.

It at least demonstrates you are not targeting non adults. What else can you do to prevent children seeing them?

I understand you run an affiliate website yourself? How do you prevent non adults accessing it?

Their response (to show that affiliate managers and legal teams just ignore the rules as I stated above - Guts aren't the only ones)

As for ads that hold particular appeal to children on social media, including Facebook, if an ad is targeted appropriately then it is likely to be acceptable. However, you would have to ensure that everyone who was likely to see the ad was 18 or over through the use of a suitably robust age verification check. It is likely that relying on a simple self-confirming age confirmation would be unlikely to be deemed sufficiently robust, especially given that there is clear research, including our own, which indicates that children are registering on social media under false ages. Therefore, our advice would be to ensure that ads on social media for gambling do not appeal particularly to children.

Guts didn't reply after that although did remove the advert.

Most ASA age related ruling include this text

We considered that age-restricted ads on online platforms should not be targeted solely based on age data, because of younger users misreporting their age on social media or different people sharing the same device. We considered that age-restricted ads on online platforms should not be targeted solely based on age data, because of younger users misreporting their age on social media or different people sharing the same device, and that advertisers should support that method of targeting by using interest based factors to help remove those aged under 18 years of age from the target audience of gambling product ads.

It's clear the ASA and UKGC do not think social media's age gate systems are robust enough to pass their tests.
I'm not saying its 100%, its my views on it based on what has been published previously :)

You can't age gate an affiliate website, its for sites that target under 18's, facebook, twitter, instagram etc all do.

I appreciate that say for example my website can't be age gated. It doesn't target children, but neither do my Youtube and Twitch channels nor my Twitter feed so unless it is going to be forbidden to use these social media websites for gambling advertising, I honestly can't see what you can do?

I am also not sure that Facebook, Twitter, Youtube etc. target under 18's.

Who makes up these stupid rules?

The ASA :D

Bear in mind Videoslots have gone overboard, I think you will find some companies don't do what they have.
