Nah, don't see it. Cosmetics are always portrayed on fit looking women, young and slim, Same with sports gear/trainers, always use teenagers or sports stars so aiming at youth and success. You don't see Nike advertising trainers on darts players, do you? Or Rimmel using a fat spotty bird to plaster lipstick on? So, they have high quality control and don't sell or market 'seconds'. Good, then I know my purchase will be of sound quality. Why should homeless people be clad free in designer gear that many working people can't afford?
The radical little oik who made the video will grow up and get real one day.
He did get one thing right - the CEO? of A&F is a right ugly ****er.
The difference is, most companies do not BRAG about it, they just let the marketing do the talking, and the consumers set the trends.
This CEO decided to insult people simply based on their background and upbringing, and in a sense, seems to support bullying of kids merely for being "uncool". Even worse, he was probably the most uncool kid in his COUNTY, let alone school, yet he went far in his adult life, a chance that would have been denied to him if those he had to deal with to get there had his attitude and refused to employ him for being such an ugly ****.
He is also sexist, as fat MEN are catered for, because obviously, they are not "uncool" like fat women, and are probably fat due to being "athletic". He is going to have to be somewhat athletic if he gets spotted unattended by his bodyguards by some uncool nerds and fat birds in the street.
He should heed the fate of Gerald Ratner, who decided to admit that his product was sold so competitively priced because it was "crap". he must have thought it a good idea at the time, just like the CEO of A & F, but Ratners no longer exists, it went bust not long after that remark, despite some furious back pedalling by the company and Mr Ratner himself.
Socially, anyone who wears A & F is aligning themselves with the social values that dictate only the "cool kids" should get the breaks, and whilst fat women are negatively viewed, being a fat bloke is a positive thing, almost healthy. If people want to be identified as holding such views, fine, go and buy A & F, but if not, don't go near it (unless you are given it by a charity worker).
As for my niece, wear A & F in her vicinity, and she wouldn't even p1ss on you if you were on fire (with the exception of the homeless, of course, who would be doused with the finest spring water if available).
Incidentally, my niece and her friends ARE "the cool kids" that Mr Ugly is so keen to attract to his shop, so he is not just irritating those he doesn't think matter to society. You might see a few local "indie" bands disassociating themselves hurriedly from A & F as a result of this.
