Last nite I sent an email to Rich Reels asking for a free comp as I had just endured 4 bad sessions in a row. They are usually pretty good about this as I do play there quite often. Last night however they elected to top off my loyalty points instead. This amounted to a princely 80 cent comp:eek2:

So I told them how I felt about that, and was told that all MG operators incur a direct cost on all bonus money they award. A different MG group told me the same story a few years ago.

Any truth to this?

Never heard this one before:confused:

It goes without saying that a free chip carries with it the risk the player will win from it, and sometimes win BIG. IF a free chip is used to play a progressive game, there will be contributions the operator has to make to the central pool, and this could be another way a cost is incurred.

HOWEVER - their is ALWAYS the above consideration, and we don't see much sign of MG casinos ceasing giving bonuses altogether, and they CAN give different amounts to different players (VIP vs ordinary).

Payment to affiliates from losses when playing with a bonus should NOT happen, and if they do, it is a shortcoming in the affiliate software.

"topping off" comps is the SAME as giving a bonus, although they can give away 80c, and call it a $10 free chip. Clearly, this didn't fool you;)

Maybe this is one of the reasons RTG and others can offer these outlandish bonuses while Microgaming operators cannot, as they have to pay a royalty to Microgaming everytime they give a bonus:confused:

Im pretty sure Casino Action told me something similar years ago.

I have akso wondered why Microgaming bonus offers are so much worse than say RTG or Playtech. Maybe they pay a royalty to MG based on amount wagered instead of losses?

Most RTG bonuses that I know of are phantom. Whereas MG tend to be cashable or use the E-Z release or whatever it is called now.

I don't see how they can make a loss in any other way that they could lose if the player wins. As Vinyl said, if you play progressive machines they could lose in the sense that playing back all the money would result in some going in the jackpot pool (hence why often progressives are excluded).

Can you explain any further?

I was thinking maybe MG gets a percentage of wagered amount (weighted depending on game played and house advantage of that game). If that's their model, the casino would have to pay MG for wagers made with bonus money.

This is pure speculation, I have no idea how the software providers calculate their profit share.

I can't quite get my head around that. Perhaps it could just be an elaborate story made up by casinos that don't want to give free chips :p

If any MG reps happen to wander by this thread, hopefully they may clarify for us.

Microgaming is the big boss of all microgaming casinos.

And it has <censored> Casino Action last year.

If this was 3 or less years ago, I think there might have been a different reason:rolleyes:

This whole idea of individual MGS casinos having to pay MGS each time they give a bonus sounds like a load of BS to me.

If it were true, there would be very little scope for individual MGS casinos, and all their promos and bonuses would be pretty much the same. This is clearly not the case. Some MGS casinos are very tight with bonus money, yet others dish it out freely.

VPL has been cited as being VERY tight, yet Ruby Fortune, as well as other Palace Group casinos, dish out regular weekly promotions, including 100% deposit matches for occasions such as Easter, St Patricks day, Mother's day - well pretty much any excuse really.

IF they have a deal with MGS that causes them to pay a "royalty" on BONUS money, it is a stupid one; maybe not for MGS, but certainly for the casinos, who are held back in their ability to compete with other softwares.

I have been playing at Rich Reels for about 4 months and have yet to cash out. I'm not saying I don't win I just don't cash out.

When I have a few bad sessions in a row I also ask for a free chip. They have given me...$20...$10...and $5. Just the 3 times.

Once I asked them to please top off my loyalty points. I had about 15000 which amounts to $1.50. they are redeemable in $2.00 increments.

They would not do it. As the points got closer to $2.00 (2000) I would ask again. They refused when I had 1950 points. Only when I had 1996 points did they top it off.

I asked for a free chip the other day and all they did is top off my points to $2.00 I think I had 1300 points.

That was nice but I think I have deposited about $2300.

Is that enough to get some free chips? Not enough? I know at Rivals I get $25if I lose a $50 deposit.

This sounds VERY similar to my situation. I have gotten free chips between $5-$25....and have also NEVER cashed out from them. I have deposited a bit more than you.....not sure exact amount. Although I have taken Villento for quite a ride the past couple of months.

When they topped off my loyalty points I was at 1200. What gets me is, in December I asked for my loyalty points topped off....I had about 48,000, and wanted to reach 50,000 to reach the next tier. It was the last day of the month, and I had deposited already that day to get the 50,000. I busted out quick. Well customer service told me then that they no longer top off loyalty points, as they must be fair to everyone....so they could not do it. I was pretty pissed but figured policy is policy.

Seems they changed the policy when it was convenient for them. They didn't want to give me a free chip this time, so the 80 cent top off was more convenient for them.

Don't get me wrong, Villento and Rich Reels are good casinos and pay quick with no fuss.....but they are cheeeaaaaaappp.....and this giving MG a royalty for any bonus funds awarded smells fishy

Perhaps they don't like players who ask too often for free chips. The fairness argument here is that players who don't ask don't get, and the LAST thing they would want to encourage is a mindset among players that they have to constantly ask for free chips or get left out.

Many operators do not seem to understand the mathematics, and thus do not correctly value a free chip in terms of the potential for future "good will" and further deposits. A player that hardly cashes out, even after a big win, is one who can pretty safely be granted numerous free chips, whereas a player who has a strict policy of cashing out when ahead, is much more likely to be a "high risk bet" when it comes to dishing out the free chips.

I have asked for free chips maybe 4 times in 4 months. I understand that MG doesn't give them out as freely as Rival but when I have a very fast session I get frustrated and I ask them.

I agree that if a player doesn't cash out often, a casino shouldn't worry so much about giving a free chip.

It just gets frustrating. I know that they don't have to give them but it goes along way for goodwill between the casino & the customer...IMO

I bitched at an MG at how bad the games were and to my surprise they tossed me a $200 free chip. Didn't help though, it sucked it down in record time same as it did my multiple deposits.

I still got a $50 chip in points but closed my account 5 weeks ago and haven't played since.

All MG casinos pay royalties to Microgaming on all money deposited which also includes bonus comps.

The standard fee is 25%. However some Groups that have a number of MG casinos I believe pay less on each property. I've heard this can be as much as a 10% discount. Taking it to 15% per casino venue.

I can't tell you what the loyalty % is for either bingo or poker though.

That is absolutely crazy. The maths says it cannot be so. 25% to MG, 20% to 30% to the affiliate - yet players can deposit and withdraw after only a few times wager through of their deposit (with no bonus of course).

Currently, Jackpot Factory are running a "lucky spins" promo where the only viable tactic is to repeatedly deposit, play at least 1x, and withdraw multiples of 50 credits. This is because the points are so heavily skewed towards deposits, that the one point per 500 credit playthrough is a complete non starter.

A winner had over 1 MILLION points. NO WAY did they achieve this through wagering 500 MILLION in playthrough, they must have been heavy depositors, and earning many hundreds, even thousands, of points on the "lucky spins".

If they had to pay MGS 25% on each deposit, or even 15%, there is NO WAY they would run ANYTHING on this promotional model.

I would suspect the royalty model to be similar to the affiliate model, based on a percentage of net hold. If a player deposited 10,000, and withdrew 9,500 for example in this JF promo, MG would get 25% and the affiliate 25% of the 500 hold, and 50% would remain with the operator. IF MGS took 25% of the gross 10,000 deposit, the casino will make 500 gross hold, but would pay MGS 2,500 and the affiliate 125, and the player 9,500 - completely bonkers:confused:

Sheesh! I bitched at an MG casino recently for the bad slot I was on (hit just 4 lots of free spins in 2500 spins - best feature paying x8!!) and I didn't even get a 'feck off' Email in return lolol :eek2:

I know it sounds crazy...Although I'm not sure if this has always been the status quo with MG, maybe we can get a comment from Jetset???

He was a part owner of Casino Jetset an MG powered venue.
